condominium: Ottawa Real Estate Sales above average in May, OREB Reports

The Ottawa Real Estate Market enjoyed sales that were above average for the month, the Ottawa Real Estate Board has reported. Members of the Board sold 1,921 residential properties in May through the Multiple Listing Service. The five-year average for May sales is 1,864. The number of properties sold in May was only five properties shy of the number sold in May of 2015, the Board says. Ottawa’s housing sales for June of 2015 were up slightly over the same month last year and were also slightly above the five-year average for June, the Ottawa Real Estate Board has reported.
In a press release on the board’s website (www.oreb.ca), the board also reported that sales in the Ottawa market for the first half of 2015 are up 4.9 per cent over the numbers in the first half of 2014. Properties that sold in June had been on the market for an average of 74 days, the board reports.

According to a press release posted by the Ottawa Real Estate Board, (www.oreb.ca) the Ottawa market in May of 2015 had the best results for unit sales for the month of May since 2009. The Board reports that its members sold 1,926 residential properties through the Multiple Listing Service system. That’s up from 1,789 properties in May of 2014, representing an increase of 7.7 per cent. It’s also above the five-year average for May sales, which is 1,812. The frigid February that Ottawa residents just endured was one of the coldest on record, with many people doing their best to stay inside, keep warm and count down the days to spring. It was not exactly the kind of weather that’s ideal for shopping for a new home, but in good news, the Ottawa Real Estate Board reports that resales for the month were actually only slightly lower than February of last year and the five-year average numbers for February sales.
