new construction: Time Nyack New Kid on the Bloack - 10/20/15 11:38 PM
We have a new addition to the Nyack Community, and its name is TIME Nyack. This new hotel will contain 133-rooms. It is four-stories, and is situated at the entrance to the NY state Thruway. When completed it will look like nothing else in the village or Rockland County. Formerly a plastics and metal manufacturer on High Avenue, TIME Nyack is what the industry calls a "lifestyle" hotel with a stylish, loft-like setting and amenities that try to offer something different from the status quo. Besides the usual amenities, TIME Nyack will have a rooftop bar and lounge, and a Bobby … (0 comments)

new construction: New Kids on the Block in Nyack - D.S.Z. Barbers - 10/01/15 11:28 PM
There is a relatively new business in town. It is called D.S.Z. Barbers. At this moment I am not sure what the the letters stand for, but ask when you drop in for a really pampered haircut and shave. The proprietors actually refer to their shop as a man cave. My husband stopped n based on the recommendation of a friend , and he hasn’t looked back. It is better to make an appointment so that you will be taken right away. You are served Expresso before your haircut and as in all barbershops the conversation is always animated. I suggest stopping … (0 comments)

new construction: Frozen Pipe in Nyack - 02/22/15 10:02 PM

As we endure one of the coldest winters in recent memory it is important to take steps to prevent your pipes from freezing. I just went through the experience, and it is not pretty. We woke up about a week ago with very little water pressure . Having lived in an old house for over 20 years I immediately knew that somewhere in the house was at least one frozen pipe, possibly more than one. We eventually found the pipe , and unfortunately it had ruptured from the expansion of the frozen water. When it thawed  water just … (1 comments)

new construction: If You Need Building Materials Nyack Lumber is the Place To Shop - 06/14/14 10:16 AM
We have been thinking about adding a proper master bedroom and enlarging our kitchen for a few years now, and recently decided to take the plunge. We called in about 3 contractors to get estimates. The estimates were all very close to each other, but were much more than we wanted to spend. We made the decision to be the general contractor for the job. We would oversee the framing, electrical, plumbing, and purchasing of the supplies. This is definitely not for the fainthearted, but can save you lots of money. This blog is not really about our experiences so far as … (0 comments)

new construction: Storm Arrives in Nyack - 02/04/14 07:39 PM
Hopefully we will not lose power here in Rockland County, but in case we do and you are going to use a generator please remember the following points . Before installing a generator, be sure to properly disconnect from your utility electrical service.  Have your generator installed by a licensed electrician. Operate generators outside, away from house.  Never run a generator indoors.  Carbon monoxide gas from the generator’s exhaust can spread throughout enclosed spaces. Fuel spilled on a hot generator can cause an explosion.  If your generator has a detachable fuel tank remove it before refilling.  If this is not possible, … (1 comments)

new construction: Nyack Farmer's Market To Soon Be Open On Saturdays - 01/26/14 08:39 PM
Great news the Nyack Farmer's Market will now be here in Nyack on both Thursdays and Saturdays starting this summer. This is a no brainer. People who work 9-5 were not able to shop on Thursdays as the market closed at 2. The Nyack village board sensitive to local business needs questioned shop owners before approving the Saturday Farmer’s Market and found overwhelming support for the idea.  Kudos to the Nyack Chamber of Commerce, Nyack Village Board, and the Nyack Farmer’s market for implementing such a great idea.

new construction: Great Auto Mechanic in Nyack - 12/25/13 07:47 PM

There is a truly great auto mechanic in Nyack. His name is Kevin, and his shop is called Kevin’s Ace Repairs.  Actually I have never asked him where the Ace comes from. Will have to inquire on next visit.  Kevin has been taking care of our various cars for over 20 years.  From our 1988 Ford Bronco, Volkswagen Jetta and Passat  to our Volvo SUV we have never thought to go anywhere else.  A story my husband likes to tell which describes Kevin takes place about 20 years ago. My husband worked in Clifton, NJ at the time, and he … (1 comments)

There were free drinks, food a live band and a DJ. As an added treat the Bobshirt Skateboard  Collection was on view which includes decks from the 1990′s including brands like Chocolate, Real, World Industries, Cream, Blind, Plan B, 101, and Planet Earth. The evening was a great success and we raised over $12,000. As president of the Nyack Park Conservancy … (0 comments)

new construction: Nyack School Bond Referendum Passes - 10/29/13 11:00 PM
Well the voters have spoken, and the School Bond Referendum Bond has passed. Very powerful emotions and complicated issues made this election one where word of mouth and the internet both insured a high turnout which is always good for the democratic system. Political apathy has never been an issue in Nyack. To see results by district click below.

new construction: Nyack Barber Shop - 09/07/13 10:25 PM

From time to time I like to highlight a village merchant that for me exemplifies the joy of being part of a close knit community such as Nyack. The Nyack Barber Shop on Main Street is just one of the  those places. The owners name is Vlad, and he always has a warm smile, and is genuinely happy to see you when you come through his door. His shop harks back to an almost bygone era where the barber shop was a place for community members to catch up with local gossip and talk politics as well. You can also … (2 comments)

new construction: Polling Places in Nyack - 09/05/13 10:48 PM
It’s that time of year again. The political campaigns are underway. Here in Nyack lawn signs are beginning to pop up in yards, mailings are showing up in our mailboxes, and people are beginning to discuss the various candidates and what they stand for. This is how the system is supposed to function, and it is exciting. One primary race that strikes me as particularly important is the race for Rockland County Executive.  Please do your own research on the candidates, and go to your polling location on September 10, and pull the lever or click the icon for the candidate … (0 comments)

new construction: Nyack Village Board Approves Financing for Repaving and Other Projects - 08/26/13 10:35 PM
The Nyack Village Board voted to approve financing for the repaving of local streets, begin improvements to Nyack Brook and Memorial Park. The first phase of grinding up existing pavement begins  9/9 and paving begins one week later on 9/16. The board will borrow about $1,000,000. About half of that will be for the purchase of new, heavy equipment to replace aging equipment at the Nyack Highway Department, and $255,000 will go towards the street repaving.
The Nyack Village Board also approved equipment for three other projects - $97,000 for improvement of the Nyack Creek Culvert,  $77,000 to move the existing … (1 comments)

new construction: Sprinklers in Nyack Memorial Park Working Again - 08/20/13 12:35 AM
According to Jim Politi, Nyack Village Administrator  our recreational sprinklers are now operational. It was very unfortunate that a broken part took the sprinklers offline for most of the summer, but they are back. Weather forecasts say that it will be a hot week so take the kids and a picnic lunch and cool off down by the river in Nyack Memorial Park.
Very important - you rest your hand on the the  black cover of the short green post. The heat from your hand activates the sprinklers – very high tech. J
