Finally after years of waiting Baumgarts has opened it's Nyack location. I have been going to the Englewood resturant for over 20 years so this is particuarly good news for me. I have probably sampled every dish on the menu in the Englewood location. I went there with my family and some friends last Saturday night. The renovation is beautiful -the interior is spacious and modern with both inside and outside seating. We ordered dumplings, chicken with pine nuts and lettuce wraps, sesame chicken and the duck. After the legalization of same sex marriage in New York the village board of Nyack has decided to name John Shields, former mayor of Nyack our first marriage officer. Shields filed a lawsuit against the Orangetown town clerk and the state asking that marriage licenses be issued to same-sex couples. Shields' term begins July 24, when the state's Marriage Equality Act takes effect. The position of marriage officer is without salary, and will last for one year.

It seems Mayor Richard Kavesh had a change of heart, as he decided to give up his right to use the Nyack First party name. Trustee Jen Laird-White, who is challenging Kavesh for mayor, and Trustee Doug Foster created the Nyack First Party in 2009. The name must be registered and reserved annually, which Kavesh did before Laird-White and Foster could. Foster said Kavesh was within his legal rights but accused him of dirty politics. Kavesh said he had no intention of using the name. Mayor Kavesh will use the Preserve Nyack line.

Well I have often marveled at the beauty of deer crossing our crossing Nyack and Upper Nyack's streets in search of good grazing- probably to the great annoyance of homeowners who have planted expensive flowers. Well yesterday saw a different visitor in Nyack. According to an eyewitness account, a bear was seen crossing Midland Avenue just north of Nyack Hospital at around 7:35pm Wed evening. Nyack resident Roger S. Cohen saw the bear cross North Midland Avenue. "He seemed to lumber across the road and disappeared behind the Nyack Community Ambulance Corps building." The Nyack school system is getting a new superintendent. His name is James Montesano. He is taking over after three years leading the Paramus school district. Believe it or not he has three brothers who are school superintendents in the New Jersey area. All the brothers went off to college not to follow in their father's footsteps and stay out of the education business. They all gravitated back to education.
Montesano will have his work cut out for him protecting the core curriculum and trying to cope with state aid cuts and taxpayers who have had it with high education taxes.

Tha action on my listing at 119 Piermont Ave in South Nyack was fast and furious. In the end there were 9,yes 9 offers. I guess the old axom location, location, location is still valid. The Nyacks are still a limited resource. Victorian homes on the majestic Hudson River- it doesnt get much better. My cell phone didn't stop ringing, texts were coming in, and appointments were literally every half hour. It reminded me of the days when the market was on the way up. I have never seen such activity on a home .

Well the kids were excited as yesterday was the first pool day at the Nyack Field Club-one of Nyack's wonderful venues for sports and socializing. The water was still too cold for me, but the kids didn't seem to mind. Today is not looking like another pool day, but we can hope. South Nyack residents met with planners and elected officials at the Orangetown Fire Company No.1 firehouse to discuss the possibility of reconnecting the two sections of South Nyack that were created with the construction of the Tappan Zee Bridge in the 1950's. Yes Sunday was another crazy Sunday in my realtor life. Absolutely knew I had better get to the gym to keep my energy levels up. From there I did an open house at my Kuyper listing in Upper Nyack where I met some interesting people and possible future buyers. My youngest daughter was performing in the strings concert at Nyack High School at three. Well one of our friends sponsored a ping pong tournament to benefit Nicaraguan children last night at the Nyack High School. The idea was to raise money to buy soccer balls for these kids who can't afford th buy them. It was a great time for all. I actually won won game, but was quickly eliminated . I had a chance to catch up with old friends which was wonderful. Have been working with my crew to get my new listing ready on River Road in South Nyack. It truly is an amazing home.
