river views: Summer Camps in the Nyack Area
- 03/22/15 09:46 PM
Now that spring is here parents will start to think about summer and what their kids will do to fill those long summer days. You may decide to take a family vacation or you may investigate summer camps or both. There many types of camps in the Nyack area, so relax and see below for a few suggestions. There is Rockland Center for the Arts Summer Arts Day Camp which is one of my favorites. There is an Open House on Sunday April 26 from 2-5 where parents and kids can tour the grounds, meet the counselors, and ask questions.

river views: Summer Camp in Nyack and Rockland County
- 05/15/14 12:07 AM
It’s that time of the year again where parents with young children have to figure out what their kids are doing this summer. Thankfully for parents in Rockland County there are many choices in all price ranges. Depending on the age of your kids the first decision would be day camp versus sleep away camp. Sleep away is charged with emotion on both parent and children’s part. Kids are usually pretty excited to go on a summer adventure, and parent who are considering sleep away for the first time are full of worry. Before choosing a camp try and get recommendations

Hopefully we will not lose power here in Rockland County, but in case we do and you are going to use a generator please remember the following points . Before installing a generator, be sure to properly disconnect from your utility electrical service. Have your generator installed by a licensed electrician. Operate generators outside, away from house. Never run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide gas from the generator’s exhaust can spread throughout enclosed spaces. Fuel spilled on a hot generator can cause an explosion. If your generator has a detachable fuel tank remove it before refilling. If this is not possible,

river views: Nyack Farmer's Market To Soon Be Open On Saturdays
- 01/26/14 08:39 PM
Great news the Nyack Farmer's Market will now be here in Nyack on both Thursdays and Saturdays starting this summer. This is a no brainer. People who work 9-5 were not able to shop on Thursdays as the market closed at 2. The Nyack village board sensitive to local business needs questioned shop owners before approving the Saturday Farmer’s Market and found overwhelming support for the idea. Kudos to the Nyack Chamber of Commerce, Nyack Village Board, and the Nyack Farmer’s market for implementing such a great idea.

2014 New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Nyack are the place to ring in the New Year. If you looking for a wonderful place to celebrate the New Year I would suggest Nyack’s Memorial Park as the place to be. The Village of Nyack will partner with Piermont and Haverstraw to celebrate the New Year with fireworks at exactly midnight along the Hudson River. Mayors Jen Laird White of Nyack, Chris Sanders of Piermont and Michael Kohut of Haverstraw joined forces with the Office Rockland County Tourism and Local Development to coordinate the New Year’s Eve celebrations. river views: Great Auto Mechanic in Nyack
- 12/25/13 07:47 PM
There is a truly great auto mechanic in Nyack. His name is Kevin, and his shop is called Kevin’s Ace Repairs. Actually I have never asked him where the Ace comes from. Will have to inquire on next visit. Kevin has been taking care of our various cars for over 20 years. From our 1988 Ford Bronco, Volkswagen Jetta and Passat to our Volvo SUV we have never thought to go anywhere else. A story my husband likes to tell which describes Kevin takes place about 20 years ago. My husband worked in Clifton, NJ at the time, and he

- 12/11/13 09:35 PM
On Saturday night the Nyack Park Conservancy hosted the Deckade fundraiser. To help collect money to build a local skate park we charged between $50-$100 for admission and inside had a silent auction and raffled off some Chocolate Skateboards product. There were free drinks, food a live band and a DJ. As an added treat the Bobshirt Skateboard Collection was on view which includes decks from the 1990′s including brands like Chocolate, Real, World Industries, Cream, Blind, Plan B, 101, and Planet Earth. The evening was a great success and we raised over $12,000. As president of the Nyack Park Conservancy

Well the voters have spoken, and the School Bond Referendum Bond has passed. Very powerful emotions and complicated issues made this election one where word of mouth and the internet both insured a high turnout which is always good for the democratic system. Political apathy has never been an issue in Nyack. river views: Polling Places in Nyack
- 09/05/13 10:48 PM
It’s that time of year again. The political campaigns are underway. Here in Nyack lawn signs are beginning to pop up in yards, mailings are showing up in our mailboxes, and people are beginning to discuss the various candidates and what they stand for. This is how the system is supposed to function, and it is exciting. One primary race that strikes me as particularly important is the race for Rockland County Executive. Please do your own research on the candidates, and go to your polling location on September 10, and pull the lever or click the icon for the candidate

river views: Sprinklers in Nyack Memorial Park Working Again
- 08/20/13 12:35 AM
According to Jim Politi, Nyack Village Administrator our recreational sprinklers are now operational. It was very unfortunate that a broken part took the sprinklers offline for most of the summer, but they are back. Weather forecasts say that it will be a hot week so take the kids and a picnic lunch and cool off down by the river in Nyack Memorial Park. Very important - you rest your hand on the the black cover of the short green post. The heat from your hand activates the sprinklers – very high tech. J
