It’s that time of year again. The political campaigns are underway. Here in Nyack lawn signs are beginning to pop up in yards, mailings are showing up in our mailboxes, and people are beginning to discuss the various candidates and what they stand for. This is how the system is supposed to function, and it is exciting. One primary race that strikes me as particularly important is the race for Rockland County Executive. Well it’s official – the Village of Nyack downtown is about to get a jolt of color. The announcement this past Monday that Nyack had received enough votes to win the Benjamin Moore “Main Street matters” campaign is exciting news for all of us. Merchants and residents alike are excited for work to begin. I think it’s great that the program will hire local painters to do the work, and those merchants and building owners get to choose their colors. It’s a win-win situation. The sixth annual Penguin Plunge is set for Sunday, March 3, from 12n-2p at Nyack’s Memorial Park. This year, the event will raise funds for Isabella Ruggiero of Harrington Park, NJ and Max and Bree of New Hempstead, NY. All are welcome to take the plunge this Sunday at Memorial Park.
