Lee County April Housing Market ReportThe April housing market report for Lee County showed 1,908 properties sold for just over $1.1 Billion during the month. The County includes Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, Captiva, Estero, Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, Miromar Lakes, Sanibel, and surrounding areas. The luxury market remained active with 153 properties sold at or above $1 Million during April. The highest-priced sale was a luxury condominium in Bonita Bay overlooking the Gulf of Mexico for $9.1 Million. The December home sales report for the week of the 21st for Southern Lee County showed there were 80 properties sold for the week in the Southern Ft. Myers, Estero and Bonita Springs area. Southern Fort Myers remained in the top position with 37 real estate transactions. Of the 37 properties sold, 24 percent were vacant lots, 11 percent were condos and 65 percent were single family homes. The other properties sold were commercial and mobile homes. Florida, Maryland and New Jersey had the highest foreclosure rates in the country according to a foreclosure report recently released by Realtytrac. Florida foreclosures increased 16 percent from a year ago and as a result the state remains among the nation’s top foreclosure rates for the fifth month in a row. This follows 10 consecutive months of year-over-year decreases. One in every 408 Florida housing units had a foreclosure filing in July which is more than 2.5 times then national average. Also, Florida properties repossessed by lenders increased up to 78 percent in July.
