The Utah Senate just passed a bill that would let home buyers receive a $6000 down payment grants using funds from the federal economic stimulus package. The grants would be available to ihome buyers that do not make over $150,000 a year. They would be required to obtain a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. You would be able to combine the $8000 federal tax credit and take advantage of the record low mortgage rates. I get asked how the market is doing. I think that we have a good real estate market. Yes, it is slower than it was but it is still doing well compared to other parts of the Nation. There are tougher guidelines for people getting loans but loans are still able to happen and people are still out there buying and selling. President Bush recently signed a bill that allows first time home buyers to use a $7500 tax credit. This tax credit can be used on any home purchase that is made between April 9, 2008 and July 1, 2009.The amount of credit will be 10% of the cost of the home., not to exceed $7500.00, the credit will be phased out at a certain income level, ( Single taxpapers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 quailfy for the full credit.)
