Oct. 21, 2013 – While most mortgages backed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) continued to function during the recent government shutdown, a letter sent by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Single Family Housing Charles Coulter has asked for patience as the agency gets back up to speed.
“We are very pleased to be fully operational and wanted you to know that we will be working hard to bring business back to normal,” Coulter said.

Oct. 17, 2013 – Government-backed mortgages with Fannie Mae will soon undergo new changes through Desktop Underwriter (DU), an automatic program that follows strict guidelines without input from lenders. The new changes will increase flexibility for certain borrowers, but they’ll make it harder for others to qualify due to loan limits, restrictions and more costs.

Oct. 16, 2013 – Fla. students pursuing a real estate career can apply for $1,500 to $2,500 in scholarship money from the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC).
Interested students must follow the rules, however. The first one: The online application process opens Oct. 21, 2013, and ends Nov. 8 at noon.
Who can apply: Students must be a Florida resident and attending an accredited Florida college or university. Eligible students must be officially enrolled in and pursuing a degree in real estate, or a degree with a concentration in real estate studies. Degrees can be at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Yes. Lenders will be able to obtain an FHA case number from the FHA Connection.
Will FHA endorse single-family loans during a shutdown?
