The Music Man Is Back With The James Gang, Does Anyone Remember This Little Jewel...Alexis
I haven't blogged a music post in a long time and since I've been driving my office buddies crazy with lots of music today it's only naturally that I share the craziness.
For those who remember The James Gang you're probably familiar with "Funk #49", "Walk Away" or Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good", but I'm guessing "Alexis" is one that you probably don't remember because it's just a bit more mellow and you're all a little too young, besides I don't think "Alexis" ever went very … (7 comments)

Trans Siberian Orchestra, Beethoven's Last Night Tour, Von Braun Center Arena
This post comes a little late, but for those living in the Huntsville Alabama area you might want to check this out.  Tonight the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be performing "Beethoven's Last Night" at 8:00 PM, at the Von Braun Center Arena.  The performance was originally to perform last week, but because of the storms in Alabama the concert was rescheduled for tonight.  Tickets are still available and $1 of each ticket will be donated to disaster relief efforts benefiting those affected by the recent tornadoes that swept through the area.

music: Pink Floyd On A Grey Alabama Day - 03/06/11 08:42 AM
Pink Floyd On A Grey Alabama Day
This month (March) in 1973 Pink Floyd released "Dark Side Of The Moon".  Produced at the Abbey Road Studios and engineered by none other than Alan Parsons, "Dark Side Of The Moon" was destined to remain on the Billboards top LP's and Tapes chart for a record breaking 741 weeks...that's 1973 to 1988...and to this date that record still stands.  I think one of the reasons so many recordings of this work were sold was because of guys like me.  I own three albums...one of which is a Master Recording, two tapes, and two … (5 comments)

Angry Eyes, Anyone Remember This Blast From The Past
In the early to middle '70's Loggins and Messina were getting much deserved attention.  They met in 1970...Jim Messina had been working with a group then known as Poco and also Buffalo Springfield.  Kenny loggins was pretty much an unknown.  Through their collaboration Loggins and Messina produced several albums and became the '70's most popular and successful Duo.  Their album titled "Loggins and Messina" was released in 1972 and "Angry Eyes" from that album made it to #1 by 1973.
Hope you enjoy.

A Little Spooky On A Friday Night...ARS
In 1970 (has 40 years really gone by?) a new recording studio opened it's doors in a little town just outside of Atlanta GA., Studio One as it was named became the starting point for the band Atlanta Rhythm Section.  A mix of members from a group called the Candymen and the Classics IV, ARS became the Studio One house band.  Recording and working on other named artists albums ARS also spent time recording their own work.  The band still plays tour dates even with some of it's original members some 40 years later.  My four … (10 comments)

Madison Band Supply, Madison Alabama, Grand Opening
Today was the grand opening at Madison Band Supplyand it was a big hit.  Because of previous commitments I couldn't be there when it kicked off and didn't show up until 3:00 with one hour to spare.  Actually this worked out pretty well since the shop was packed earlier and the parking lot was full.  Robin & Frank, the store owners, provided visitors with food, drinks and music performed by local area musicians.  When I got there two members from the Madison Community Band were playing outside while a group of guitarist were playing on … (1 comments)

For Charles Darwin...Play That Funky Music White Boy
Okay, I know it's a bit of a stretch, but way back in 1809 February 11th or 12th depending on which source you believe-close enough I figure-Charles Darwin was born.  So what does Charles Darwin have to do with the unusual tune I've picked out for tonight (unusual for me).  Well nothing really...I'm sure most of us are familiar with good ole Chuck's theories of Evolution...okay here comes the stretch...in 2001 a Science Fiction Comedy was released featuring; David Duchovny, Orlando Jones, Seann William Scott & and the lovely...very lovely Julianne Moore...the name of … (7 comments)

The Band Music From Big Pink...The Weight
Another Friday finds us and old habits die hard.  Friday may be the end of the week for some, but for me...it's just another day and the weekend just a couple more days to work before a new week.  Anyway, Friday's still feel like a night out...maybe time to unwind, relax and recuperate from the week and music is how I like to decompress.  The Bands' "The Weight" has been around since the late '60's, featured in many movies and covered by several bands.  The Group Nazareth took its name from the first … (8 comments)

music: HELP ME IF YOU CAN... - 01/28/11 04:15 PM
HELP ME IF YOU CAN...
Here I go dating myself again, I can't help it...I'm an old guy, but I'm still 17 on the inside.  I like to post a music video on Friday night or any night for that matter so while searching for a great Friday night tune I came across this great oldie.  It's not really what I consider a Friday night kick back, close your eyes and get lost in the music kind of tune, but it did jar a few memories...maybe it'll bring a few rushing back for you.  Back in '65 the Beatles movie "Help" … (13 comments)

Who Temps You...Diana Krall...I Could Get Lost In Her
This is my second Diana Krall post and it's long over due.  My first post of Diana's music featured "Peel Me A Grape".  If you like "Temptation", my post for this evening you should check out "Peel Me A Grape"...I think you'll like it.  I've been following Diana Krall for a few years now, have all of her CD's and looking forward to the next.  She's sexy, thoughtful, intense and I could get lost in those eyes...Elvis Costello you're a lucky man and we are all lucky to have her music.
Turn it up!

Madison Band Supply Madison Alabama Entrepreneurial Spirit Alive And Well
The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Madison Alabama.  Frank and Robin Cotton will soon be opening the Madison Band Supply at 1604-B Hughes Road in Madison Alabama 35758.  The scheduled opening is set for February and with their enthusiasm for their new venture it will probably be ready next week.
Robin is an agent working out of my office at Summit Realtors.  She has no plans to give up real estate because as she says "it's what she does".  However, she has a strong involvement in music playing … (3 comments)

How'd You Like To Spend Christmas on Christmas Island?
For those of you not familiar with Leon Redbone then the title is lost on you and you certainly weren't expecting what you are about to hear.  For those of you who clicked on because your curiosity got the best of you then sit back and get into the holiday spirit in the islands and just maybe this will help you forget the cold blowing snow the even seems to be reaching into the south.
I've been a fan of Leon Redbone for a long time, even got to see him at … (15 comments)

Headed To RainCamp...Oh Atlanta
I'm trying to forget about my Droid X problems and concentrate on tomorrows trip to RainCamp Atlanta.  Whenever I things get a little complicated, stressed and generally unpleasant I usually turn to music.  Seems there is a piece of music that fits every occasion and Little Feat fits the bill tonight.  I never got to see Little Feat in concert, but have most of their albums and CD's.
HOPE YOU ENJOY RAINCAMP AND...OH ATLANTA!

Beatles...The Last Holdouts...To Cd's And Ipod....Dear Prudence
I admire the Beatles and always have not only for their genius as musicians, but also for holding out against the mad rush to cash in on the CD wave and more recently the Ipod.  They and their heirs felt the sound quality produced through these mediums wasn't up to their standard and for that I applaud them.  The song I've selected is one that I've always liked...maybe not one of their most famous, but as with many of their songs it tells the story of someone they knew.  I'll let wikipedia tell that … (4 comments)

Just A Mellow Laid Back Friday With Otis...Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay
I think we'll all remember "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding and co-written with Steve Cropper.  Dock of the Bayactually was about events in Reddings life at that time.  He actually did leave Georgia for San Francisco and wrote much of the "Dock of the Bay" lyrics while staying on a houseboat watching the ships come in and roll away again.  A couple of days after Reddings death Steve Cropper returned to the studio and finalized mixing and "Sitting on the Dock of … (7 comments)

Not Exactly A Halloween Tune, But How About A Little "Sympathy For The Devil"
Okay, so it's not exactly what you would expect to hear on Halloween, but it's my post.  Anyway, I could have chose Monster Mash or Thriller...maybe the theme from Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield used in the "Exorcist"...that would have been good...did you know that he did that album by himself?  Okay, so I'm off track...it's my post. The Rolling Stones...no introduction needed, but to say another of my favorites...any of you old fogies have enough life left in you to listen to this one more time?

Time To Put Nail In Another Sunday Evening..."Always With Me Always With You"
Joe Satriani has been a favorite of mine for several years now.  His driving guitar solos fill my need for speed at least on the back of his signature Ibanez JS Series electric guitar.  Inspired by Hendrix, Clapton, Beck and working with a few other guys you might know; Mick Jagger, David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, Deep Purple and so many others, Satriani is a guitar force to recon with.  But, it's Sunday evening and I picked something by Satriani just a bit more laid back...the perfect way … (8 comments)

Are You Ready For A Little Stevie Ray Vaughan...The Sky Is Crying
I need to start posting these tunes a little earlier, but it seems this is the time of evening when I really get into the music and think of my AR friends.
We recently celebrated John Lennons birthday and remembered what he meant to the world...his politics...his music and he is missed.  Another musician that I miss is Stevie Ray Vaughan.  It's hard to believe that he's been gone this long, but I remember well in 1990 when he died in a helicopter crash just moments after leaving Alpine … (12 comments)
