Last night I attended the Delaware Antiques Show and saw many fabulous items, below are some of my favourites, not all were crazy prices but you would need a significant wallet to pick all of these up, so which is your favourite? Believe it or not this is carved from wood, and was beautiful. I always see Blue Herons, and have decided they are my "Spirit Animal", this is a fantastic example of carving, especially all those flared feathers. It is that time of year again, Fall, when the Delaware Antiques Show which benefits Winterthur is held at the Chase Center in downtown Wilmington. Easy to reach from Baltimore, or Philadelphia and surrounding areas it is a gathering of about 60+ dealers from the New England and Mid West areas of America.
They bring a wonderful assortment of wares, furniture, silver, ceramics, art, fine art and jewelry to name a few with which you can decorate your home or collect for investment purposes. As you know I manage an antique show for a local charity I support, Surrey Services for Seniors. Yesterday, I was asked to appear on Surrey Solutions a program they film for the local community television network in our township which gets shared with other neighboring community channels as well. I borrowed some items from some of our local exhibitors and for about half an hour we chatted and discussed the show. I grew up in a family which dealt in antiques, every trip to the countryside often resulted in a purchase as did our vacations as well. This is a photo of my Dad at a major antiques show in London called The Grosvenor House Fair, held at the hotel on Park Lane in London in the ballroom, unfortunately the show is no longer in existence. I did not want to be an antique dealer, I joined the British Army and went to Sandhurst, our equivalent of West Point after high school. Spring is the time when there are many Antiques Shows in our area including the major show on the calendar The Philadelphia Antiques Show which is in a couple of weeks. However, this weekend you can browse many of the same dealers who exhibit at the Main Line Antiques Show in October at the Chester County Historical Society Antiques Show. Held at the Phelps School just off Paoli Pike it is a short ride from Tredyffrin Easttown area and you can find all sorts of things to furnish your home with, furniture, paintings, ceramics, silver, decorative arts and Americana. The Main Line Antiques Show 2010 for all you lovers of antiques on and around the main line in Philadelphia is only 12 days away. This year it will be held at the Radnor Valley Country Club with 31 leading East Coast dealers, some who even exhibit at the prestigious Philadelphia Antiques Show exhibiting well over 5000 antiques and works of art between them. That is a lot of stuff to see!
