berwyn: Worth considering? - 03/22/11 06:36 AM

You have probably driven past Berwyn Squash and Fitness clubon Cassat Road many times, more than likely you have noticed their solar panels on the roof. But if you are looking for a new sport or somewhere to work out this club is worth considering. Not only does the club have great squash courts, trainers and competitions, but there is also some exercise opportunities for strength training, cardio and stretching as well behind that inscrutable facade. Now if you live locally, it also allows you to be green, in that not only does your club have solar panels, but you can … (1 comments)

berwyn: Berwyn gains ground - 01/31/11 09:18 AM
Berwyn gains ground through the Tredyffrin Easttown School District demolishing their old office building, which used to be Berwyn School.

As you can see not much left of that old administrative building, just a couple of urns on pedestals and some old columns, hope they are going to recyle those,. Makes you wonder why they did not link up with a developer, hold on to the land and turn the building into apartments to rent along the Main Line. In the heart of Berwyn that would have been a win win for everyone, allowing the school district to earn some … (0 comments)

berwyn: Great place to eat in Berwyn - 01/31/11 02:31 AM
If you want to grab a quick bite Berwyn has plenty of places, but a great place to eat in Berwyn is Bravissimo Pizza. They serve great pizzas, lots of choice either for a slice or a whole pizza for eat in or take out; but they have some wonderfully interesting rolls, strombollis and calzones as well with a nice mix of fillings as well as serving pasta dishes and the usual cheesesteaks.
Saturday I was running some errands, when the phone went and my afternoon changed, causing me to change plans on the fly. I was right by Bravissimo and stopped … (2 comments)

berwyn: Woodpecker pushes other birds away - 01/30/11 05:35 AM
One of the things we love about the winter is that we put bird feeders out around our house and we get a large variety of birds come visiting, Finches, Cardinals, sparrows and many more.

This feeder is right outside our living room window, our cat loves to sit on the back of the sofa and it keeps her amused watching the birds, and they seem to realize they are safe from her. This wood pecker has been around recently and is a bit of a bully because when he is feeding he pushes everyone else away.

As pretty … (4 comments)

berwyn: Even pruning improves your curb appeal - 01/25/11 10:29 AM
Even pruning improves your curb appeal, but it is one of the most diffcult things for gardeners to get right and many are worried about over pruning and damaging a plant or shrub. But if you prune your bushes correctly you can improve the curb appeal of your home, it is just knowing how and when.
Pruning is not that difficult and Jenkins Arboretum on Berwyn Baptist Road are holding a free pruning workshop presented by Maggie Knapp head horticulturist on February 14th at 1.00 PM titled show your shrubs some love.
It does actually help your shrubs to prune them … (2 comments)

berwyn: Beautiful image, but this time I have a photo! - 01/22/11 11:59 PM
So a couple of days ago I wrote about a couple of foxes in our neighborhood, in Berwyn PA but had been so engaged watching them I forgot to take any photos. This morning once again one of them trotted across our drive. I managed to get my camera out and get a shot, a little obscured of him in the neighbors yard. Trudy then shouted that the second fox had just caught a squirrrel and a few seconds later caught photos of him or the first who must have stolen it in the road at the end of our drive.

berwyn: Beautiful image, but don't have a photo! - 01/21/11 04:04 AM
Yesterday morning we were just getting going, and I see a young red fox trotting down our road among the snow banks. His coat really stands out and although it was cold he looked happy enough and very relaxed in our suburban locale. So we are enjoying watching him and he sits down in our neighbors drive looking down the road just as if he is a domesticated dog. (Of course like an idiot I don't think to take a photo of this as I am enjoying it so much.)
We then see another smaller fox trotting across the road below him and … (3 comments)

berwyn: Berwyn community holiday party and tree lighting Sunday 12/5 - 12/02/10 06:11 AM
Berwyn community holiday party and tree lighting Sunday 12/5 starting at 6.30 pm. The big evergreen tree at the Berwyn Train Station by the east bound tracks always seemed the central hub of the village of Berwyn.  Many years ago, Gene Williams remembers saving this area in the parking lot by not allowing commuter parking spaces.  The early development of the village was around the train area.  In the 19th century, a market car allowed the local farmers in the surrounding area to ship their produce into the city. Other businesses supporting the train line developed between the Lancaster Turnpike and … (0 comments)

berwyn: New restaurant launches in Berwyn - 09/30/10 05:44 AM
Trudy and I stopped by Alfredo last night, a new Italian Restaurant that has opened in the old San Nicola space in Berwyn at 668 Lancaster Ave. The layout of the restaurant has changed from the old San Nicola, it is now a BYO which seems to be the case for many new restaurants nowadays.
The kitchen is based on dishes from the Naples area, which is where the owner comes from. As we walked in we saw friends sitting at a table with their daughter also trying it out. We had a great evening together with good food.
 They had … (2 comments)

berwyn: hhgregg opens in Berwyn - 08/08/10 09:02 AM

Berwyn is a big place stretching across two townships, Easttown and Tredyffrin. I was driving along Swedesford Road in Tredyffrin and saw that the new hhgregg store, where circuit City used to be was Now Open. So stopped off to check it out.
I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this is an early opening, and maybe they don't have all their inventory in place, but the store did not feel attractive. Very bright, too much empty open space, prices did not seem that competitive compared to Best Buy, Walmart, Kmart or Sears.
But what do you think? … (0 comments)

berwyn: More shops coming to Berwyn PA - 08/05/10 05:03 AM
Berwyn, PA on the border of Easttown and Tredyffrin Townships is hotting up. A new Bathroom and Kitchen shop is opening soon on Lancaster Avenue in the vicinity of the old Berwyn Hardware store. Alfredo a new restaurant is going to fill the gap left by San Nicola. Curves moved location a while back to have a more visible store front on Lancaster Ave. We have Medi-Weight Loss and an architectural firm filling the old Masonic building on Lancaster. A new emergency care doctors office is opening next to the state liquor store, not sure if that is related, probably not but not … (0 comments)

berwyn: Royal Tea House Berwyn - 03/19/10 09:03 AM

Trudy and Istopped by the Royal Tea House this afternoon in Berwyn and met the owner Eileen Hoban. What used to be the Berwyn Coffee Shop has been transformed into a tea lovers haven or even heaven. Multiple teas of all types, black, green, caffeinated, decaffeinated, fruit teas, herb teas etc. Every type of tea you want, and if you don't see the one you love let them know and they will get it in. Unlike a traditional coffee shop Royal Tea House is really aimed at having you buy your tea rather than just stopping by for a "quick cuppa" … (5 comments)

berwyn: Who are those people on the wall in Berwyn? - 08/17/09 02:38 AM

Ever wondered who are those people on the wall in Berwyn?
Painted in 2005 over the summer on the wall of a building opposite Clay's Bakery on Waterloo Avenue the mural depicts a Fourth of July parade and was commisioned by Earnest Eadeh and painted on the side of a building Earnest owns in Berwyn, PA. There are a host of people who many may not know. But thanks to C. Herbert Fry a local historian the information is available.
It is a colorful eye catching patriotic piece of work with flags flying. The 20 faces from right to left are Gene … (0 comments)

berwyn: Need quality office space without a long term commitment? - 06/10/09 05:31 AM
I recently attended an orientation meeting at our local Regus office complex and hosted a breakfast there for people who might be looking for homes.
What I like about the local office located in Berwyn on route 252 is the offices are modern, well laid out with everything you might need. Plus they have options that if you need to travel on business give you access to offices worldwide. They have a host of office sizes and the most modern data services you might need, you can bring your own copier or use their state of the art model. All in … (0 comments)

berwyn: Is this the right time to buy for you? - 03/27/09 03:00 AM
There is a lot of comments by real estate agents that this is the time to buy but is that right for you? Really it all depends on your situation and whilst prices have dropped, and interest rates are at historic lows if you don't have some funds saved and a good credit score it is not the right time.
Even FHA loans require some money 3.5% as your share of the purchase and whilst you can ask for a sellers assist for closing costs not all sellers in this market can give it to you. So you do need some funds … (0 comments)
