chester county: Like Minds - 01/07/19 01:35 PM
Last year, 2018 I challenged myself to walk one of the Camino de Santiago routes, just under 400 miles walking from Lisbon to Santiago de Compostela. I ended up walking 532 miles reaching Santiago de Compostela and carrying on via Muxia to Finisterra (the end of the earth).
This was really a momentous life challenge and life achievment moment for me. It took me about a month and returning to every day life has been a challenge. Walking every day, on average 22-23 miles, leading a very simplistic life, get up, walk, drink coffee, eat breakfast, walk, more coffee, walk, eat lunch, … (17 comments)

chester county: Yesterday Was - 03/25/18 09:15 AM
Before you get a pet,  in Tredyffrin Easttown, consider adopting a pet. My friend Sheila Anderson posted this blog this week and asked others to share it.
Consider helping a pet find a home, and make yourself happy and prolong your life as well. Pets are a delight to have around and they motivate you to walk, move around and enjoy life that little bit more.
We have lots of options nearby, the Chester County SPCA, lots of local stores have adoption centers, and there are multiple other local organizations helping people find the perfect pet.
Yesterday was National Puppy Day. For me and the numerous … (8 comments)

It is Spring, it is snowing all day, and we are rapidly running out of wood. Thank goodness my son who lives nearby has a decent pile still, we restocked yesterday.

chester county: Our "storm" has started. - 03/20/18 09:45 AM
Over the last 12 hours I have received numerous weather alerts on my phone. My son's flight was delayed last night due to storms affecting the flight but they made it home. His two dogs Nellie on the left below and Jacques the Dachshund in the photo on the right were very pleased to see them when we picked them up at the airport last night.
I have had winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings by text and email. Estimates are that today we will get somewhere between 2 and 6 inches. Tomorrow we will get between 8 and 15 inches.

chester county: Gardening in Tredyffrin Easttown - 08/15/17 06:18 AM
When we moved to this house, it was very dark, in the first summer here I took down about 80 trees of varying sizes which covered mainly what is now the back lawn. We could see no form to the garden, no plan. We had no idea of the way the sun tracked. But as we cleared, light entered and we tackled the vines and the scrub which had been allowed to take over.
As I have said many time, Trudy is the gardener and planner. Things get moved constantly if she thinks they will do better elsewhere. She is never finished. I … (23 comments)

chester county: Wordless Wednesday - 02/08/17 12:13 PM
You never know what is around the next corner in Chester County when showing houses. It could be a fox, deer, coyote or even bear recently. I came across these fine fellows last year or the year before. They were very interested in a female who was near by and were holding up traffic in their effort to impress her.

Surprised to see this today in Chester County!

I was showing a rental listing I have today when the children of the potential tenant asked what that bird was outside. I have never seen a wild peacock just wandering around like this, but you never know what will turn up in Chester County.
When I was well out in the county before I came across these handsome gentlemen:-

It is one of the great things about living here, we have an abundance of wildlife, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy it. If you are interested in finding a Chester … (4 comments)

chester county: Where does your food come from? - 08/25/14 02:02 AM
Where does your food come from?
Here in Chester County we are very lucky, although we live just outside a major metropolis, Philadelphia we have access to some of the best produce from local farms, and our local county is encouraging this as well. Just look at this map for some of the choices, of CSA's, Farmers' markets or even just produce stands.

Also Chester County has a great resource in the A Guide to Local Farm Products in Chester County 2014, packed with information and resources.
Having access to great local produce is one of the things that makes … (2 comments)
