curb appeal: Spring is in the air, but not in the ground yet - 03/27/23 12:25 PM
Ahhh, Spring is in the air. Yes, the winter doldrums are leaving, warm weather is here. Well it was yesterday, not so much today!
We get so encouraged to rush out and buy plants to fill our beds around our homes and brighten up our curb appeal. But, it can be a costly mistake if you plant to early.
Whilst we get some warm days, we spent yesterday afternoon at Longwood Gardens enjoying seeing the cherry trees and magnolias in bloom. Everywhere you looked there was evidence of life, flowers beginning to bloom and brighten the landscape. We even sat at a table … (20 comments)

curb appeal: "The Most Beautiful Spring Garden in the World" - 04/17/17 09:44 AM
"The Most Beautiful Spring Garden in the World"
The Philadelphia Flower Show 2017 was focused on Holland this year, but the Keukenhof makes a rather grand boast. This weekend I got to check it out and tick it off my bucket list. Trudy is the gardener in our family but over the years I have come to appreciate the art and the beauty created.

I was also glad to know that was a fritalaria hanging above the tulips and daffodils above. Whilst they say a picture is worth a thousand words, there are some facts to offer first.
"The Keukenhof"
Actually means the kitchen garden. … (19 comments)

curb appeal: A rose in Berwyn, PA - 05/24/12 07:39 AM

We got this rose as a gift, it was in a small pot intended to be displayed inside. Well like all good gardeners, Trudy decided it needed the great outdoors. We have done nothing to coddle it, it had to styand on its own, and this morning it just looked glorious.

curb appeal: Curb appeal that elusive quality - 05/11/12 05:04 AM
It is said it takes people about ten seconds to size up another person and decide if they will like and or trust them. Often when out with buyers, it can seem they make a quicker decision than that about a home you take them to see.
Walking through my own neighborhood, with many homes built at the same time and being a similar model, one home can be appealing another not so much. If you ask me what it is about a certain property that attracts or repels I can probably tell you some specific things, but many times it … (0 comments)

curb appeal: Replacement windows can give a whole different look - 10/18/11 10:20 AM
New windows a whole different look!
We just had some of our older windows replaced by WindowsPlus from Media, they use a vinyl replacement window by Okna. It was a simple process and went much faster than I thought it would, here are some photos that show the before and after and the process.

Actually this is a really old photo and we had just replaced the large picture window a little while ago and added some shutters, split levels are hard to give good curb appeal, we have worked hard on the garden and that has improved a lot … (0 comments)

curb appeal: Flowers need to add curb appeal through the summer - 07/27/11 11:14 AM
Onme of the issues for many gardeners is getting the mix right throughout the year of flowering plants. Perennials are great, but they often bloom and then leave you with a bed of greenery and nothing else. Annuals help out adding color, but sometimes it is just a mater of doing some research and mixing what you plant to flower at different times. Harder said than done but one of the flowers we have admired over the past few years when our yard is looking kind of drab was "Canna Lillies".
This one is just beginning to flower, as you … (3 comments)

curb appeal: At last a tedious job gets done. - 04/04/11 01:13 PM
Last weekend Nick and I finally got around to chipping ALL the branches of the 100 plus trees we  (read: Nick) took down. Before you say: awful to take that many trees down I'll ex[plain the why in a minute. This all happened some 8-9 yrs ago and there had been this massive pile of tree branches lying in our wooded section of the yard.
They had of course started the decompose and break up, but particularly in the winter when the underbrush (read: weeds) don't cover or hide the pile, it always was a huge eyesore. So at last we … (3 comments)

curb appeal: Even pruning improves your curb appeal - 01/25/11 10:29 AM
Even pruning improves your curb appeal, but it is one of the most diffcult things for gardeners to get right and many are worried about over pruning and damaging a plant or shrub. But if you prune your bushes correctly you can improve the curb appeal of your home, it is just knowing how and when.
Pruning is not that difficult and Jenkins Arboretum on Berwyn Baptist Road are holding a free pruning workshop presented by Maggie Knapp head horticulturist on February 14th at 1.00 PM titled show your shrubs some love.
It does actually help your shrubs to prune them … (2 comments)

curb appeal: Location, Location, Curb Appeal! - 03/23/09 11:29 PM
You know what they say in real estate: Location, Location, Location. Surely after location it is curb appeal though, so may be the saying should be Location, Location, Curb appeal.
How many of you have not even wanted to get out the car, because the house looked so UN-appealing just from the curb?
So now that Spring is finally coming.... get out there and do something about your yard and the exterior of the house. My first love is gardening, so to me it is less of a chore than for some, but there are some easy guidelines to go by.
I always … (0 comments)

curb appeal: Preparing your Tredyffrin Easttown home for sale - Landscaping - 01/31/07 12:28 AM
Curb appeal and the role of Landscaping
Curb appeal
When you are preparing your Tredyffrin Easttown home for sale you must see it through the eyes of potential buyers. You want that initial curb appeal impact to be a positive one, creating a desire that when they enter your home only increases. Your landscaping can add to that appeal or decrease it even to the extent of having potential buyers drive off without even seeing the inside of your home.
Landscaping
Landscaping can bring a big impact for low cost, sometimes it requires removing things as opposed to adding. Don't be limited by your property … (3 comments)
