gardens: It is Spring! - 03/22/18 07:42 AM
With all the storms I was looking through some photos yesterday and it reminded me that it is Spring, and in a few weeks it will look beautiful and we will have forgotten all the snow.

Usually our azaleas flower just before Mother's Day.

And of course this time of year is when the tulip fields are flowering
Wish this was my garden, but I fear the deer would have a banquet with that choice.

gardens: Gardening in Tredyffrin Easttown - 08/15/17 06:18 AM
When we moved to this house, it was very dark, in the first summer here I took down about 80 trees of varying sizes which covered mainly what is now the back lawn. We could see no form to the garden, no plan. We had no idea of the way the sun tracked. But as we cleared, light entered and we tackled the vines and the scrub which had been allowed to take over.
As I have said many time, Trudy is the gardener and planner. Things get moved constantly if she thinks they will do better elsewhere. She is never finished. I … (23 comments)

gardens: Wordless Wednesday - 04/26/17 02:52 PM
I don't know what orchids these are, maybe Roy Kelley does. I saw these on my visit to The Most Beautiful Spring Garden in the World, the Keukenhof, in Lisse, The Netherlands.
Not even sure if this was an orchid, but everything else in this pavilion at The Keukenhof in the Netherlands was so am presuming this was as well

gardens: I'm thankful for Chanticleer - 11/17/16 12:08 AM
We LOVE gardens and so I am Thankful for Chanticleer.
Living on the Main Line people think there is not much green around us, but that is far from the truth. I shared how I am Thankful for Valley Forge National Park, But, Chanticleer is a wonderful garden open during the late Spring through the Summer season. It was a private estate, but now in trust and has wonderful natural gardens on the rolling hills of the estate. Friday evenings in the summer you can bring a picnic and the place is packed, and although you may find it hard to find a … (4 comments)

gardens: Main Line Living - Chanticleer Garden worth a visit - 05/30/14 07:50 AM
People clamor to live on Philadelphia's Main Line, and Wayne in Radnor Township is one of their favorite places with the Victorian Homes and walkable side streets. But what used to be a well hidden secret no longer is, Chanticleer Garden. Overlooked for a long time as people travelled through the area to Longwood Gardens, it has now come into its own. These gardens are one of our favorite and well worth a visit. Friday evening you can even bring a picnic and a bottle of wine to enjoy, but any time a visit is worth it.
We find inspiration for … (0 comments)

gardens: A rose in Berwyn, PA - 05/24/12 07:39 AM

We got this rose as a gift, it was in a small pot intended to be displayed inside. Well like all good gardeners, Trudy decided it needed the great outdoors. We have done nothing to coddle it, it had to styand on its own, and this morning it just looked glorious.

gardens: Jenkins Arboretum in Spring - 05/02/11 01:38 AM
Many people livingin our area love gardening and know thew resource that Jenkins Arboretum can be. I know this time of year it can be beautiful with all the azaleas opening up, something the arboretum is known for along with the rhododendrons, which I thought it was a little early for them to be open. But yesterday, not realizing that it was their plant sale I stopped off and was really amazed at how many rhododendrons were opening up as well. Enjoy this short video of the visit.

gardens: Chanticleer Photo Exhibit - Wayne Art Center - 02/10/11 01:37 AM
Chanticleer Photo Exhibit at Wayne Art Center starts this weekend on Sunday February 13th and runs till March 19. Chanticleer is one of my favourite places for many reasons. Firstly it is extremely peaceful, however busy it seems to be, there is always somewhere to sit away from the crowds. It is a great place to go and think and look out over some great views. Friday evenings in the summer you are allowed to sit with a bottle of wine and a picnic enjoy the evening and some great conversation. then of course there are the flowers and shrubs, the … (0 comments)
