jenkins arboretum: Meet the new Executive director of Jenkins Arboretum in Devon - 01/21/20 05:05 PM

One of the joys of living in the Tredyffrin Easttown part of the Main Line is being able to enjoy Jenkins Arboretum. There is always something going on and the early spring is a wonderful time to enjoy the Azaleas and Rhododendrons for which they are famous.
Recently, a new executive director was appointed, Tom Smarr, and he will be sharing the history of the arboretum at a lecture at Easttown Library, another favourite place of mine located on First Avenue in Berwyn on Tuesday January 28th at 11.00 am. Register here.
The property was originally home to H. Lawrence and Elizabeth Phillipe Jenkins … (4 comments)

jenkins arboretum: Jenkins Arboretum - 01/17/17 09:09 AM
Jenkins Arboretum
There are those places you drive past often without realizing what you are missing until you stop and visit. Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens is one of those places in Tredyffrin Township. A small gem hidden away off Berwyn Baptist Road and trickling down the hillside to Devon State Road. Sometimes when the day is busy and I need a moment I will stop off here.
Entrance is free. Yes, no charge for this wonderful attraction, which if you have young children will easily tire them out and give you some rest when they fall asleep, after making their way back up the … (8 comments)

jenkins arboretum: I'm thankful For Jenkins Arboretum - 11/22/16 12:49 PM
I'm thankful for Jenkins Arboretum!
Do you notice a trend here in what I like and am thankful for...nature, I find it immensely relaxing. The Jenkins Arboretum is located in Devon, PA and sits on a wooded hillside plot filled with Azaleas and Rhodedendrons. I may get this wrong, but I believe all Azaleas are Rhodedendrons, but not all Rhodedendrons are Azaleas, or the other way round. Anyway, come Mothers Day this garden open to the public is a riot of color, with some rare hybrid types of great color. Enjoy a short walk with me.

Happy Thanksgiving, Spring will be here soon and … (3 comments)

jenkins arboretum: Jenkins Arboretum in Spring - 05/02/11 01:38 AM
Many people livingin our area love gardening and know thew resource that Jenkins Arboretum can be. I know this time of year it can be beautiful with all the azaleas opening up, something the arboretum is known for along with the rhododendrons, which I thought it was a little early for them to be open. But yesterday, not realizing that it was their plant sale I stopped off and was really amazed at how many rhododendrons were opening up as well. Enjoy this short video of the visit.

jenkins arboretum: Even pruning improves your curb appeal - 01/25/11 10:29 AM
Even pruning improves your curb appeal, but it is one of the most diffcult things for gardeners to get right and many are worried about over pruning and damaging a plant or shrub. But if you prune your bushes correctly you can improve the curb appeal of your home, it is just knowing how and when.
Pruning is not that difficult and Jenkins Arboretum on Berwyn Baptist Road are holding a free pruning workshop presented by Maggie Knapp head horticulturist on February 14th at 1.00 PM titled show your shrubs some love.
It does actually help your shrubs to prune them … (2 comments)
