valley forge national park: Chesterbrook, PA - 05/05/21 09:38 AM
I have been selling real estate since 2004 and lived in this area since 1990. I always knew Chesterbrook was a popular place to live, but it was not till last year that I fully appreciated some of those reasons.
When the pandemic hit our area, we were all told to stay at home, not to travel anywhere. I have always been a walker, more so the last few years and this being stuck indoors was very hard.
I moved to Chesterbrook in 2019, living on Valley
Stream Lane and from there had discovered a path along Valley Creek that took me underneath the … (15 comments)

valley forge national park: Grateful Friday - 10/23/20 08:59 AM

Today, I went for a walk, not one of my six mile jaunts, just a short early morning walk as I was meeting a friend for breakfast. As I walked I realized how grateful I am for the day, the wonderful colors along the creek I walk beside.

I was descending a hillside and just stopped and listened to what intially I thought was silence. But heard the crickets and other insects chirpping, then the cooing of a dove. As I stood there I noticed a single leaf floating to the forest floor, swirling around and around and thought it would … (16 comments)

valley forge national park: Valley Forge Park through the seasons - 04/26/20 08:41 AM
I can walk into Valley Forge National Park from where I live, there are multiple trails I can use. I have always loved this place ever since we moved here from the UK, even if it is a symbol of the Revolution against the King of England. I love the wide open spaces, but I have come to love all the different trails, the wildlife and the views. Hope you enjoy my video as much as I enjoy the park.

valley forge national park: I went for a walk today - 04/17/20 02:10 PM
I felt in need of a walk today, a longish walk. I had an idea where I was going to go, but was not sure how far it would end up being. I took some water, a sandwich and tied my laces. If I walk up into Valley Forge Park, there are many trails I can take. Today I walked across the open space in the middle where there is a trail in the grass, and then crossed the Schulykill and walked along the River Trail and back. I ended up walking 14.6 miles and it makes me think about my Camino … (24 comments)

valley forge national park: A beautiful day - 04/02/20 03:04 PM
My hat arrived today, this is such a wonderful memory of my Camino, I love it, could not resist ordering it when I saw it online. Just the start to a wonderful day.

Today was a beautiful day, I was walking in the park this morning, and noticed some great views, a wonderful blue sky, some water plants growing, and came across a visitor I am not sure I want hanging around me.
The greens around these plants are so fresh, so light and unsullied by storms or heat, they scream Spring is here!
And then I saw this fellow and a friend sitting … (17 comments)

valley forge national park: Speechless Sunday - 11/17/19 08:27 AM

Yesterday was very cold and blustery, needed to go for a walk, but really had to persuade myself to go, so glad I did as I came across this lovely guy, as I have said before Blue Herons have become my Spirit Animal and to go out and see this guy was a big thrill.

valley forge national park: Dinosaurs were here! - 03/31/19 02:00 PM
Saturday saw some beautiful Spring almost Summer weather visit our area and Valley Forge Park was abuzz with families and couples walking, running, biking and enjoying all the park has to offer.
A little while ago an article was published that somewhere in the park several dinosaur fossils from the Triassic period had been found on a path. Hiking so often as I do there I have been keeping my eyes peeled. I thought I knew where but was unable to identify any specific fossils. Till yesterday, when I saw this gentleman explaining to his friend what he was looking at, right in the … (13 comments)

valley forge national park: Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge, PA - 03/18/19 10:09 AM

One of the places I like to hike near me is Valley Forge Park. The rolling hills and the open spaces allow you to enjoy the blue skies we so often get, even in the depths of winter. With blue skies, even when cold you get the warmth from the sun. Generally where ever you are in the park, if you are on the walking trail that loops around the park you cannot miss seeing the tower from the Washington Memorial Chapel. I have posted many photos of it over time, on sunny days, foggy days, snowy days as it stands … (8 comments)

valley forge national park: Valley Forge in Winter - 03/08/18 01:57 PM
At the birth of the nation after a battle at Brandywine where the British relentlessly pushed forward towards Philadelphia the defeated American Colonial Army retreated to Valley Forge to protect the crossings and regroup. It is a famous point in American History. Did the British realize how weak the Americans were and how easily they could have crushed them by bringing them to another fight?
The lure of Philadelphia was too great, and while the Americans sheltered and reformed from a rag tag militia into an army. The British entered Philadelphia.
Eventually that newly formed army took on the might of an Empire … (21 comments)

valley forge national park: History in our midst - 07/09/17 10:09 AM
What I love about our area is the glimpses of history around us. Driving out via Valley Forge Park to Phoenixville along Route 252 North a little before you get to Route 23 you see the bridge below. Recently repaired after a truck clipped the side and demolished a portion of it it is a glimpse of days gone by.
There is parking close by and a lovely trail along the river or creek bank under the shade of trees. It is popular with those who want an easy flat walk and those who will challenge the hill it sits at the … (17 comments)

valley forge national park: Sunday is a great day to walk - 05/14/17 06:57 PM
Sunday is a great day for a walk
Yesterday, Saturday, it rained all day. Today the weather started off cool but dry, so I decided to go to my favorite place and go for a walk. Those living in Tredyffrin Easttown have Valley Forge National Park just a few minutes away. There is a wonderful circuit you can walk, goes up and down and it is about 5.5 to 6 miles long. I walk pretty briskly so it took me about 1 1/2 hours. There were lots of people out walking and running today. One Mom and her daughter were running I … (15 comments)

valley forge national park: 2017 may it be a year of celebration for you - 12/31/16 08:37 AM
However dark life may seem, how storm tossed the waves, remember...

This too shall pass and the sun will rise, good times will return, the clouds will part and things will improve. Where ever you are in life I wish you a blessed 2017 filled with all you wish yourself, but most importabtly health, for without that you have nothing, friends and family around you who support and encourage you, amd a dream or goal to pursue that challenges you to grow in this coming year.

valley forge national park: Is this really cold? What about Valley Forge? - 12/16/16 11:35 AM
Is this really cold? What about Valley Forge?
I often ask myself when I am complaining inwardly about the cold, "Is this really cold? What about Valley Forge?"
I am usually wearing multiple layers of good modern materials designed to keep me warm, decent gloves, solid shoes, a scarf and a hat and coat. Back in the 18th century when the American Colonial Army sheltered in Valley Forge after the Battle of the Brandywine it was cold. Most of the men had threadbare clothing, often no shoes and little or no pay. That was cold, little to keep your spirits up and food was … (24 comments)

valley forge national park: I'm thankful for Valley Forge National Park - 11/15/16 10:48 PM
I'm thankful for Valley Forge National Park!
Being a Brit, I always found it ironic visiting here with my kids and hearing about all the history they were learning and how bad the British were portrayed. But, over the years it has become a favorite place to visit. I love walking here, around the loop, along the river in the woods, there are so many places to enjoy. It helps on bad days to soak in the sunshine, to feel the breeze, look out over the vistas and clear your mind, and just breathe. For this I am thankful that wise men, … (9 comments)

valley forge national park: A photo and place that makes me relax - 11/02/16 03:02 AM

I often walk at Valley Forge National Park, which is a short drive from my home. In the summer it is best to get there early due to the heat. I took this photo early one morning when the mist was still a little evident but had mostly burnt off.
It seems ironic when we first moved here from London, England and times were tough we would walk in Valley Forge, the location of The American Revolutinary Army Camp. But the blue skies which are often prevalent where we live lifted our spirits when they wanted to flag. Being so close, it … (11 comments)
