Casa Carmen, on Old Baltimore Pike in Jennersville, West Grove PA, the winery and vineyard that is right behind our home in Big Elk community has at last begun their soft opening. Every Friday and Saturday from 4.00 to 8.00 pm they will be open.
The winery had worked with Ryan Homes and offered all homeowners in Big Elk a complimentary glass of wine, distributing some tasting glasses at an event in the fall. Bring the glass along and your first glass of wine is free.

When you move a distance from where you used to live you need to find lots of new providers, contractors, doctors etc.
Well, I have always been a believer in Chiropractic Care, but when I am in pain, I know I really do not want to be driving an hour to get to my most wonderful chiropractor Andy Fetterman in Berwyn. I have been going to Andy for many years and he is excellent.

As the builder is still building here in Big Elk it may be too soon to expect resales. But people have different reasons for moving and sometimes they realize they might have made a mistake.
Whilst this is a 55+ community, and all the homes offer one floor living for the owner, they do include stairs and basements too.
All "The Villas", twins have been sold by the builder, so there is now opportunity for owners to resell if they want and hopefully find a buyer who missed out when the builder was selling. You also are not in competition with the builder … (3 comments)

The names chosen for a development can be boring usually and other times they can be extremely interesting. Ever since moving to Big Elk we have wondered about the road names. Some are fairly obvious, but it is not till you do a little historical research that the others become meaningful.
For example our road Thomas Penn is quite obvious, son of William Penn who after his father died in 1718 travelled to Pennsylvania in 1732 to become the Proprietor of Pennsylvania. Elk Creek Farms is a development of 194 homes built by Iacobucci Builders between 2002 and 2004, located on route 896. It comprises of single family detached homes of three, four and even five bedrooms, with two and three bathrooms.
Whilst most homes have a two car garage I have seen some with three car garages. Most homes sit on about 1/3 of an acre and homes vary between 2900-3900 square feet approximately with additional space in the basement.

west grove: Is it a plane, no it is a drone but doing what?

Yesterday when I was walking Jackie we saw this very large drone. It has six motors/propellers. It was moving slowly over the land that has been being prepared for the next phase of building at Big Elk. This area will have a number of single family ranch homes.
I talked with one of the workmen and he said this drone was sowing grass seed, but I also heard from a neighbor that they were doing a laser survey. Well as you can see in the photo above they were filling it with something, which I thought looked like seed. It moved very … (20 comments)

Living in a new community is appealing to many people. Currently, builders seem to be favoring building Active 55+ communities and Ryan Homes has been developing Big elk for little over a year. The new clubhouse, shown above, opened recently with a swimming pool, mail room, exercise room and kitchen and club room too.
Located on W Baltimore Pike the main road into the development is called Hood Farm Road. This is between Routes 796 and 896 so easy to reach from Route 1.

Every morning I walk our dog. Jackie, who is named after Jackie Robinson, because Annie my fiance's mother grew up in Brooklyn and was a lifelong Brooklyn Dodgers fan. When she got Jackie, she wanted a baseball name and thus Jackie. We have posted lots of photos of Jackie who is very low energy.
Basically I drag Jackie on our walks, she acts like a resistance ball always behind me. That is unless she notices a fox, or you mentionthe word fox and she gets excited and rushes ahead searching for the fox, nose to the ground.

west grove: How fun it is!

We have just moved to West Grove, about ten minutes west from Kennett Square, home of Longwood Gardens and Winterthur, well Winterthur is in Delaware but nearby.
Most people do not like change, they take the same route to work every day, quite content to never explore. But, if you know me at all, you know I like to explore and discover things.
So, I am driving around trying different roads, and discovering all sorts of small shops, restaurants etc. These will become part of my blogging as I help others discover new experiences too.
