What's going on and why does it matter?
There have been only two instances in the past 12 months where mortgage pricing has been as good as it is right now.  Mortgage bond prices have approached their highest levels of the year amidst global economic growth worries.  The 10-year US treasury yield broke below 1.7%, an important technical indicator that may signal lower rates ahead.  Government bond yields across the world are also at record lows with German 10 yr government bond yields approaching 0%.  Asia and Europe have taken the spotlight this week with dissappointing economic reports showing weakness in their … (2 comments)

What's going on and why does it matter?
Mortgage bonds are continuing to drift sideways amidst market uncertainty.  Oil prices are at their highest levels in nearly a year (bad for bonds), but China reported weaker than expected export data, and the World Bank reduced its global economic growth forecasts (both good for bonds).  The Fed is scheduled to purchase up to $2.375 billion in mortgage bonds today, which may help to keep bond prices in positive territory.  The economic calendar is light this week, with the JOLTS report scheduled to come out later today.  The market may be in a holding … (1 comments)

What's going on and why does it matter?
Mortgage bonds broke through and closed above their 30-day moving average yesterday, which is a great sign.  The 30-day moving average is now likely to operate as a technical level of support.  The non-farm payrolls report came out this morning much worse than market expectations.  Only 38,000 jobs were created last month vs. market expectations of 164,000.  Even when you factor out the Verizon strike (35,100 jobs), the report is astonishingly weak.  This is the weakest jobs report in over five years.  This is likely to cause mortgage bond prices to rally today.  A weak … (0 comments)
