Home buyers continued to find the housing market very competitive with higher home prices and an extreme lack of properties to buy, especially in affordable homes priced under $300,000. The Greater Charlotte area ranks #3 as one of the 10 hottest housing markets positioned for growth in 2021 according to Realtor.com's Top Housing Markets Report for 2021, released December 7th.

A recent realtor.com haunted house survey found that 56% of homeowners who think they live in a haunted house said they would not move. Interestingly, 54% of surveyed homeowners who think they live in a haunted house said they knew that before they purchased the house.

Corona virus restrictions on showings and stay-at-home orders from late March through April significantly impacted home sales in the Charlotte region; especially so in Mecklbenburg County, where Charlotte is located and where we saw the most onerous restrictions on home showings.

Charlotte region ended 2019 as a seller's market and has remained a seller's market in the first three months of 2020 with inventory remaining extremely tight, dropping 25.3% in March 2020 compared with March 2019.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was not yet felt in March, but we are prepared to see some impact in April once the effect of shelter-in-place orders can be measured.
