Today is the 17th anniversary of National Mutt Day in Charlotte (and everywhere else for that matter). Also known as Mixed Breed Dog Day, National Mutt Day was created in 2005 by animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige, to raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters all over the country and to educate the public about the millions of mixed breed dogs desperately awaiting their "fur-ever" homes.

Where To Have Fun With Your Dog During The Dog Days of Summer! Charlotte is a city of dog lovers! In some of our neighborhoods it sometime seems that there are more four-legged residents than two-legged residents. Charlotte offers dogs and their humans fun all summer long (and also all fall, winter, and spring) at dog parks, hiking trails, dog festivals and dog-friendly restaurants.
Charlotte City & Mecklenburg County Dog Parks: Charlotte dog parks are open from 7:30 am until sunset seven days a week. Use of county dog parks is now free. As of July 1, 2008, pooch passes are no longer sold or required. (65 comments)
