active rain power: Confession of a Lapsed Rainer - 04/25/14 02:29 AM

Sometimes we let our relationships, whether they be business or personal, perk along on autopilot with only the occasional "drip" of attention.  It's always easy to find an excuse for our moments or months of neglect.  Personally, I think I have a long list of plausible reasons I've neglected my business family at Active Rain.  The first being I left my "Big Box" franchise real estate office and opened up a brand new start-up, Charlemagne International Properties, on January 1, 2014.
Suddenly there were not enough hours in the day to make it through the ever-expanding list of things to do. … (40 comments)

active rain power: It's Raining Listings and Buyers--Thanks Active Rain & Google - 08/24/10 12:38 PM
The thermometer says it is hot outdoors this week, and apparently so is Toering & Team.  It may be the dog days of summer but the sizzle is back in the local real estate market, at least in my office this week.

Over the weekend we listed 93 acres on the California side of the Colorado River near Needles, CA.  OK, this did not happen overnight--I've been communicating with the sellers for over one year.  What caused them to finally pull the listing trigger and select Norma Toering & Team?  They loved my Internet presence--from the website to the blogs about my other … (3 comments)

active rain power: Active Rain Showed Me a New Way to Roll - 03/26/10 04:54 AM
This post will push me past 300,000 points on Active Rain. I have posted nearly 900 articles and reaped untold benefits including a tiny bit of fame (my real estate blog was voted one of the ten best in Los Angeles by Relocation.com), a tad of community recognition and was tagged as a go-to source for information about the local market.  All good stuff.

The real thrill for me is the increased level of information I can disseminate to my clients and prospective customer base. It still amazes me when an open house attendee tells me my blog or web site … (3 comments)

active rain power: Rainmakers - 07/15/09 03:38 PM
Two things happened today that made me pause and remember life as a real estate agent before I began my Active Rain Education. First, I took my first Active Rain Ambassador training session.  I had to smile as I listened to phrases and words such as keywords, SOI, page ranking, and other technical terms tossed about.  It was pretty cool to realize over the past twenty months I've earned an honorary degree in building a blog.  It was hands-on, trial and error, intermingled with sweat and near tears, fear of the unknown (wondering whether I was wasting my time as I … (46 comments)

active rain power: A Most Unlikely Active Rain International Referral - 04/30/09 10:37 AM
Yesterday I had a call from a person in New York City inquiring about the property I have listed in Egypt.  I quickly surmised he was looking at my post Homes of Egypt on my Active Rain site.  After I made a quick explanation that those photos were taken in Egypt on holiday, he asked me for assistance in locating an agent in Egypt to list a property owned by his family.

You never know who will find your blog or where it will generate business.  I'm in contact with an agent in Egypt and we are working out the details.  … (5 comments)

active rain power: The Power of Posting - Norma Toering REMAX Palos Verdes - 04/04/09 06:08 AM
Blogging for business is why most of the Active Rain members are here, but the side benefits are perhaps even more powerful.  To be honest, I did not feel the need to begin blogging when my son suggested it two years ago.  I was too busy selling real estate to write stories about it on the Internet.  I had lots of questions such as who would find my posts and how on earth would that help my business?

I have a closet full of tapes and books purchased to ignite my real estate career, and I've paid thousands of dollars to attend seminars from Buffini … (14 comments)

active rain power: You Never Know Where Blogging Will Take You - 12/18/08 11:49 AM
I never expected to be here!
Los Angeles County

I wrote my first blog thirteen months ago and live and work in Los Angeles County---a county full of real estate agents and nearly 4,000 of them are on Active Rain!  It was daunting to see point totals in the hundred thousand range and more than once I wondered if I was crazy to be blogging with such enthusiasm, especially since I had my share of 0 comments!
My experience with quitting is limited, so I kept on posting and commenting.  Soon open house attendees were mentioning things they read … (20 comments)

active rain power: Google Loves My Listings - 12/12/08 10:21 AM
Yes, after less than 48 hours on the market my new listings were on PAGE 1 in the FIRST and SECOND positions when searching for Colorado Riverfront property for sale in Needles, CA.  I'd like to take all the credit but this was a shared endeavor.

active rain power: It's Not Easy Building a Beautiful Blog - 11/22/07 11:35 PM

I've read hundreds of posts, bookmarked several as reference sources and subscribed to a few blogs during my first month on Active Rain.  It has made my sleepless nights in Palos Verdes much more productive---Pogo games can be such a waste of time!  Members, thank you for taking the time to write so many thought provoking and educational posts.  This is one of the best continuing education classes I've ever signed up for.
It didn't take long to notice words are not enough.  Those gorgeous graphics are eye-catching and essential.  So I struggled through adding the above note and promise to … (10 comments)
