This public beach in Rancho Palos Verdes is accessible from Trump National Golf Course.  It is a hike down the cliff to reach the sand, but it is one of my favorite places to walk on the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula.  It's also a great workout when you climb the switchback trail up the cliff on your return.
The public beach area is located adjacent to the private Portuguese Bend Beach off Palos Verdes Drive South in Rancho Palos Verdes.  There is a lifeguard station but I have been there many times when no lifeguard was present.  It is … (2 comments)

 I didn't know my microphone battery was nearly dead, but I think the view and the kids with surfboards tell the story without many words.  Josh and I arrived at RAT Beach in Palos Verdes Estates just as a surfing class concluded.  RAT Beach is extremely popular with the locals as the shallow water is great for children and surfing classes.

I'll be the first to admit if you're in search of an active nightlife, Palos Verdes is not the place to find it.  However, despair not, as all you must do to find it is drop off "The Hill" and hug the coast.  Once you hit Pacific Coast Highway you'll find the beach cities awake and hopping.
