blog: Dang, Nobody Saw it! - 02/24/07 01:14 PM

I spend too much time thinking.  Maybe nobody else even cares about this.  Today I am trying to wrap my brain around figuring out when to post to get read.  There is obviously a lot out there on AR now.  Posting on a Friday night didn't work out too well for me yesterday.  I guess the rest of you all still have social lives, or no three year olds at home.  Sunday night also seems to have been a slow starter for me.
I figure we are all social animals.  If you post here, you probably want someone else to read it, … (70 comments)

blog: Hey, We Are Being Watched, And Not Everyone Likes What They See - 10/14/06 03:05 AM
If you are serious about wanting to be a real estate blogger, there are lots of great resources out there and tons of good people you should be reading.  Some of those good people 'on the outside' of our ActiveRain cocoon are reading some of our ActiveRain blogs, and they aren't impressed.  This week, Christine Forgione and I had a little conversation about this piece from a very fine blogger, Greg Tracy from BlueRoof.com. Greg writes:  "ActiveRain is a real estate industry network and has some great real estate bloggers, but they also have a lot of crappy ones who post up … (199 comments)

blog: ActiveRain: Are We Blogging in a Bubble? - 10/10/06 04:00 AM
Since ActiveRain kicked my blogging attitude back into gear a few months ago (thank you Matt & Caleb), I've started to do what I needed to do all along.  Explore the BIGGER world of real estate blogging.  My blog tour last week was a part of that exploration.  I still have a long way to go, and the blog tours will continue, with another to be announced shortly. Here is what I see "out there" that helps to make the conversation fluid: Trackbacks and Pingbacks.  Trackbacks essentially add a comment automatically to the original blog that is being "blog backed" in AR … (20 comments)

blog: Observations from the Blog Tour - 10/07/06 01:28 AM
A follow up report from our little non-ActiveRain blog tour experiment this week. For those of you who missed my original invitation, we visited the blogs of members who maintain a separate blog outside of ActiveRain.
I visited a lot of great sites and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  I liked it so much, in fact, that I am going to post the details on a much better blog tour in a few days, based on the lessons I learned from this one.  I've got some ideas for improving upon the concept and I think it should be fun and beneficial … (25 comments)

blog: How About a Blog Tour? - 10/05/06 02:50 AM
Looking for blogging ideas?  Looking for blogging connections?
I know I am not the only one out there who maintains a separate blog dedicated to my local market.  I've talked about mine fairly often.  It's on my mind a lot. And this morning, Colleen Kulikowski had up a post about touring new listings in Florida. I thought I would somehow combine the new listing tour with my current obsession with that 'other' blog, and extend an invitation to the rest of you.  If you are actively working on another blog, outside of ActiveRain, and you want to participate, please join me.  … (96 comments)

blog: Company is Coming. Are You Ready? - 10/04/06 03:31 PM
Two events tonight set off a little light bulb in my mind.  First was Matt Heaton's post about the ultimate real estate portal, and the future of ActiveRain.  Then, an hour ago, I checked in on my own Woodward Corridor Blog to do a little maintenance, and I got a big surprise.  I had been paid a visit by Rudy Bachraty of Sellsius.  To me, Rudy is blogging royalty.  I only wish I had known he was about to stop by and pay me his first visit. I hope he will be back. Rudy landed on my newest post, a hasty … (9 comments)

blog: 500 Real Estate Blogs to Watch - 10/03/06 03:20 PM
I get tired just thinking about it.
I was checking the stats on my Birmingham Michigan Real Estate blog tonight, when I noticed an unfamiliar incoming link.  So I clicked on it and was shocked with what I found.
Pittsburgh Homes Daily has been busy (for quite a while I'd say) assembling a list of links to 500 top real estate blogs across the nation.  There are even international real estate blogs here.  If I were a gambling woman, I would take bets that he will be the winner in this week's Carnival of Real Estate, if he enters.  And he should enter.  … (17 comments)

blog: Surfin' Safari Leads to Googlebase Questions - 09/24/06 09:43 PM
Certainly others of you out there in the blogosphere will have the answers to my questions.Yesterday I was Googleing something, and I landed on Googlebase.  It looks like ActiveRain has managed to send our AR blogs there.  Pretty cool, huh?!  Thanks, Matt, Caleb and Ben.  This certainly is another AR benefit.   I guess my search must have had to do with "THE Tomato" and I found his AR blog listed on Googlebase.  But I didn't find his "real" blog, nor did I find my "real" blog or any of the other "real" blogs I looked for.  (By the way, if … (8 comments)

blog: Death of a blog - 09/12/06 03:06 PM
I've spent the last hour or so deleting about 18 months worth of posts from our Oakland County real estate blog.  Its kind of scary to push delete and know my work could be gone for good.  Google, msn and yahoo had found me and visited often.  The occasional client stopped by.  New customers somehow stumbled across it and called us.
I still have about 150 more posts to dump.  Since I have to do it one by one, its actually like a little trip down memory lane.  I am getting old, so my memory is going quickly these days.
Anyway, soon enough, … (19 comments)

blog: Top 10 Reasons I am glad I don't live and sell real estate in Florida - 08/25/06 10:17 AM
10. Hurricanes
9.  Alligators
8   Palm trees with Christmas tree lights on them do not cut it for me.
7.   I can’t imagine not having a basement in my house.  Where would I put all my crap?
6.  That whole thing with the ‘chads’
5.  I would hate feeling like entertainment for tourists who “just like looking” at houses on vacation
4.  We would have to get a new picture for this blog, and, well, I really hate getting my picture taken.
3.  I easily tire of sandy beaches, clear skies and fruity cocktails.
2.  Half of suburban Detroit is … (11 comments)

blog: The Fairy Blog Mother - 08/23/06 03:44 PM
Not long ago, Maureen McCabe coined the term Fairy Blog Mother for Pennsylvania Realtor, Frances Flynn Thorsen of TheRealtyGramBlogger, one of the first real estate bloggers I ever knew of.
A few years ago Frances tried to gain access to the press room at the NAR connvention so that she would work on her blog.  She was turned away.  Now they let her in, and the journalists appreciate what she is doing.
Dmitry and I are members of her "Blogsquad."
Anyway, this is a great article about Frances and about her ideas of where blogging and real estate are headed.
Frances is on … (14 comments)

blog: Selling ads on your site - 08/22/06 06:18 PM
Just last week a moving company called me about becoming a "preferred partner" on my web site, Oakland County Homes. I did not call him back yet because I don't even know him.
Jim Lee's post yesterday reminded me of his call. Jim mentions selling ads on agents’ sites. I've considered it. I even put google adwords on my Oakland County Real Estate blog for about a day, until I realized that all of my finely crafted content was being used to direct traffic to other local agents’ sites in return for a few cents. Clearly, that was not my intention … (9 comments)

blog: Joyeux de Blog (There's Gold in Them Comments) - 08/21/06 07:47 AM
This morning I was musing about what is making AR so wildly successful.  I’ve been blogging for a couple of years (3 to be exact), and try to maintain a blog about Birmingham and the Oakland County real estate market.  But in the last few months I’ve found it challenging to post much.  I tell myself that I have been busy selling houses, but I know that is an excuse.  Have I lost “the joy of blogging???”  Unfortunately, I’ve been in something of a blogging slump.  Until Maureen McCabe turned me on to AR.
At the risk of sounding like a … (9 comments)
