Finally after 40+yrs in the making the Mid-Currituck County Bridge seems to be moving forward. The Governor has moved up the start date of the bridge from 2019 to 2017 with completion scheduled for 2023. Once completed the toll bridge will eliminate the 20+ miles of traffic that back up each weekend leading to the Outer Banks from June-September. As well as ease the congestion of traffic in Southern Shores and Duck while cutting travel time to Corolla by several hours. (NCDOT) Transportation officials have approved a comprehensive list of proposed construction for the next 10 years that for the first time is based on a ranking projects according to their impact on a statewide, regional and local level. The 2016-2025 State Transportation Improvement Program includes nearly 1,100 projects that highway officials expect to support the creation of nearly 300,000 jobs in the state.
