lake ontario: Speechless Sunday - On The Waterfront - 01/23/11 04:52 AM

It was really, really cold by Lake Ontario yesterday.  The temperature was  minus 10 C. and that wasn't taking the wind chill into consideration.  I love taking long walks with my dog but this was the first day I was practically running back to the car after about 5 minutes of being exposed to the elements along the lakeshore.
I was surprised that there were quite a few people ice skating on a rink beside where we were walking.   They were very brave souls. Here in Oakville we are not used to these frigid temperatures.
Today my computer tells me … (15 comments)

lake ontario: Wordless Wednesday - What's On Your Horizon? - 01/05/11 04:06 PM

It's a new year and most of us are still wondering where last year went.  I hear so many people say that they are glad that last year is over and that 2011 will be a new beginning.
Let's hope 2011 will be a great year for all of us and that we can accomplish all that we set out to do.  Add in  little luck for good measure and it will be the year to beat.

lake ontario: I Couldn't Find Any Snow - But I Found A Snow Goose - 02/14/10 04:19 PM
We've had an  easy winter so far,  here in Oakville. Very little snow other than a light dusting here and there. No school closings or disruptions.  They are getting rain in Vancouver for the Olympics.  Some worried that there wouldn't be enough snow for the ski events.
It's been snowing in Dallas and in many parts of the U.S. that rarely if ever see the white stuff.  No one can blame Canada this year and say it's the cold Arctic air travelling south.
I can't predict the weather other than knowing that spring will arrive as usual around the 21st of March.  Our Canada Geese … (18 comments)

lake ontario: Rattray Marsh - Where Boardwalks And Birdwalks Go Hand In Hand - 02/10/10 03:27 PM
We finally got a little snow last night.  Not much but enough to cover the grass and send the salters out onto the roads.  Not enough to make drivers slow down and drive a little more carefully in winter conditions
Here are how things looked this morning out my dining room window.

Cold weather is not enough to keep anyone inside if you are dressed properly and that includes long underwear, but I talked about that in a previous post.  I thought today would be a great day to take a walk along the boardwalk at Rattray Marsh in Mississauga.

lake ontario: Friday's Foto - Making Waves On Lake Ontario - 09/25/09 04:10 PM

It was a chilly  56 degrees F. with a strong wind just before sunset this evening when I spotted this brave? soul taking to Lake Ontario with his surf board at Bronte Beach in Oakville.  Yes, Lake Ontario, where the current temperature was hovering around 67 degrees F.
Living on Lake Ontario for all these years, I must say I never really thought too much about all the related statistical information.  I did a bit of research and here are a few interesting facts and figures.
Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the World It ranks 4th among the … (20 comments)

lake ontario: Foto Friday - Bronte Village - Oakville, Ontario - 07/03/09 05:53 PM
Friday evening and I was off to show condos in beautiful Bronte Village.  The Four "Ennisclare" condominium buildings on Marine Drive in Oakville appeal to those who desire lakeside living with luxurious amenities.  Some of the units I showed had stunning views from the balconies of the Toronto skyline at sunset.  Others overlooked Bronte harbour and outer marina.
I can only imagine waking up every morning and seeing Lake Ontario from my bedroom.  After the showings, I decided to take a walk down the Bronte Pier.  Dusk was setting in and the area was quiet, peaceful and serene.

lake ontario: In Search of the Bufflehead - How I spent my Sunday Afternoon - 03/09/09 09:08 AM
This is the time of year that the Bufflehead ducks appear on Lake Ontario and our inner harbours of Oakville and Bronte. These striking black and white ducks are the smallest diving ducks and scarcest in  North America.  The male Buffleheads have bright pink feet.  The female buffleheads are more grey or brown in colouring and their white areas are more dull.  They are very energetic, and disappear abruptly under water.  These birds drop by in the spring and fall during migration.
The majority of the Buffleheads winter in the U.S. on either coasts.  The ones we see here in Oakville are probably now … (5 comments)
