tulsa: Oppoturnity is Now Here - 03/11/10 12:15 AM
I woke up this morning to an annoucement by our local media that the old Tulsa City Hall will be purchased for a million dollars by the Snyder family, who recently purchased and rennovated the old Tulsa Mayo Hotel.  The Mayo Hotel in downtown Tulsa had been a fabulous hotel at one time, but had fallen into decay and ruin.  Their restoration of the building was amazing.

The Snyder family will be paying cash for the Tulsa City Hall and the nearby council chamber.  The Snyder family … (0 comments)

tulsa: Oklahoma Blizzard 09 - 12/24/09 08:20 AM
Parts of Oklahoma are under a blizzard warning!
This is only our third blizzard warning here in the last 25 years!
Interstate highways are now being closed.  Oklahoma City is reporting that they have 6 inches of snow already.  Apparently there is a 50 car pile up out around Midwest City.
Here's a photo of our driveway.  Doesn't look too bad does it?  What you can't see, feel or experience is the temperature which is below freezing and the 30 mile per hour wind that is blowing.  How about a video of it?  Scroll down!

That weird sound … (9 comments)

tulsa: Selling Your Home Successfully in the Tulsa, Oklahoma Area Part Six - 08/22/09 05:52 AM
Selling Your Home Successfully in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area, isn't hard when you know what you're doing!
Today, it's time to talk about wood rot.  In Oklahoma, wood rot is an ongoing maintenance issue.  This is because we typically use wood and Masonite and other kinds of siding materials in home construction.  These types of materials are susceptible to damage from water and moisture.
When it comes time to sell your home, you will be responsible for any damaged wood rot or termite damage to the structure.  Let's take a look at various places where wood rot occurs.

tulsa: Selling Your Home Successfully in the Tulsa, Oklahoma Area Part Five - 08/21/09 12:38 AM
Selling Your Home Successfully in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area, isn't hard when you know what you're doing!
Successful sellers understand that carpet and floor coverings are important when you want to get top dollar for your home.  Let's take a look at a couple of examples of carpet situations.
This is the carpet in our son's room.  He just graduated high school this past May.  You can see that as a teenager, he was pretty hard on the carpet.  It didn't look like that when he moved into the room!  Notice the stains.

Now, lets compare that to carpet in a … (2 comments)

tulsa: Selling Your Home Successfully Part Three - 08/18/09 02:51 PM
Selling Your Home Successfully in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area, isn't hard when you know what you're doing!
Making your home "pop" by using curb appeal.
In part three of this continuing series, I want to focus on how to make a home stand out when it is located in a neighborhood where many of the houses resemble each other.  This happens when new neighborhoods develop, but only a few builders build the houses located there.  What you have when that happens is a situation that looks something like this.

These are great houses in a highly desirable neighborhood in Owasso, … (2 comments)

tulsa: Craigslist Scam Alert in Tulsa, Oklahoma! - 08/17/09 11:57 PM
Warning!  There are scammers using real, but vacant houses for sale on Craigslist in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they're out to take your hard earned rent money!
Apparently there is a real estate scam on Craigslist in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area whereby people are using real listings in order to cash in from unsuspecting people.

As I understand it, what they do is gather the information from the Craigslist listing along with a few of the pictures.  They use only vacant listings to make the scam work.  They then make a fake ad saying that the house is for rent.  This ad might be placed on Craigslist, … (8 comments)

tulsa: Selling Your Home Successfully Part Two - 08/17/09 01:21 PM
Selling Your Home Successfully in the greater Tulsa, Oklahoma area, isn't hard when you know what you're doing!
In this second part of my series, I want to focus on older homes, specifically in the Owasso, Oklahoma area.  However, these tips will largely apply to any older home when it comes to updating and selling.  I live in a house that is 17 years old.  The homes in my neighborhood are about the same age also.  They are typically one story, Ranch style homes.  They were well built homes with big rooms, lots of brick and large kitchens.  Some of the features typically … (4 comments)

Welcome to the Owasso Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store in beautiful Owasso, Oklahoma!
Here in our town when you want a sweet treat, one of the places you head to is Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Store.  According to the Braum's website, Bill Braum opened the first Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy Storein 1968...but the Braum story actually begins long before that time, spanning three generations with over six decades of history behind it.
To visit the Braum's website and read their history, click here.

tulsa: Welcome to Sole FX, the (Diabetic) Feet Fixing Folks in Owasso, Oklahoma! - 08/02/09 04:15 PM
Welcome to Sole FX, the (Diabetic) Feet Fixing Folks in Owasso, Oklahoma!  Sole FX is quickly becoming the place people turn to when their feet hurt due to diabetes and/or other foot related problems.  That's because Mark Dougherty, founder and owner of the business takes excellent care of his patients.

Opening in January 2008, in an Owasso, Oklahoma storefront shop, Mark has built his Sole FX business by providing top notch, hands on customer service.   And it's paid off.  By June of 2009, his business had doubled from that of his first year.  Not bad for a guy who saw a … (0 comments)

tulsa: It's His Right, but I Still Don't Get It - 07/21/09 12:59 AM
The Tulsa World and a local radio station are reporting this morning that a band member named Marion Gooding III was arrested last week at the Cherokee casino for trampling an American flag in his act.
The guy was booked into jail, but was released 12 hours later after posting a $500 bond.
Apparently there is a video of the incident that is going to be reviewed.
Here's what I don't get
What are you so mad about that you want to take the symbol of your own freedom and stomp all over it on the stage in a performance?

tulsa: Making Improvements and Paying for Them - 06/26/09 12:16 AM
Question:  What do most people do who want to buy a house?  Answer:  Go get a loan!
There may be those fortunate folks who can afford to buy their house by paying cash, but the vast majority of people will take out a mortgage.
In the city of Tulsa, and in government, things don't seem to work this way.
Take the city of Tulsa, for example.
Here in Tulsa, our mayor, Kathy Taylor, has been working hard to make good improvements.  These are the kinds of things that willl increase tourism and keep our young folks from leaving to go to … (0 comments)

tulsa: Tulsa OK Housing Update - 06/21/09 01:37 AM
The Business section of Today's Tulsa World reports some positive news for the Tulsa and OKC (Oklahoma City) areas.
Both Tulsa and OKC are currently among the Top 10 American cities for economic performance through the first quarter of 2009.
Additionally, housing starts jumped in May.  That means that our local area builders are building more new construction homes than they had been previously.  It is important to note that the year to date total is still behind that of 2008, but in a recession any positive movement towards growth is good.
If you're thinking of moving to the Oklahoma area … (0 comments)

tulsa: Help! I can't find this product! - 10/25/08 01:24 AM
The wife and I are painting a room in our house.  We heard about a product called Wilson's Imperial Wil-bond.  This is a liquid substance you rub on stained woodwork.  Wait about 30 minutes and you can paint the woodwork without sanding.
I've heard wonderful reviews about this product, but I cannot find it anywhere in our area.  I checked at Lowe's and Home Depot and even called Ace Hardware.  The reaction each time was, "Never heard of the stuff!"
Here's a pic of the can...

Have you used this product before?  Any opinions on how it performed?
Does anybody … (2 comments)

tulsa: Your Mother has full blown Alzheimer's - 09/24/08 11:36 PM
Hey Everyone,
If you follow my writings, you know that throughout this year I've written about my mother's battle with non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  I also wrote about how she ran over a mailbox and then drove the car home rather than stopping to tell the home owner what she had done.
The truth of the matter is that we all knew mom was having problems with her memory.  However, without a diagnosis, we just hadn't put all the pieces together.  We figured the chemo was further aggravating her "little memory" issues and that it would get better once she was done … (4 comments)

tulsa: Welcome Tammy and Rick! - 08/22/08 07:57 AM
I'm so excited I can't hardly stand myself today!
I recently invited two of my friends, who are also business colleages to jump into the Rain.  And they both accepted!  As I like to say, "How cool is THAT!"
Tammy Laakso is working towards being an appraiser.  She's completed about half of her course work and hours up to this point.  She works for me part time as my assistant and is also working towards getting her real estate license right now.  She's also a neighbor (she lives just up the road) and a good friend.
Rick Trowe is a client … (4 comments)

So welcome to our town!
Take a moment to check out our pics, read some of our articles and check out Owasso.  In the days to come, I'll be adding neighborhoods and pics from around town.  For now, suffice it to say that Owasso is one of the cleanest and nices places you can live in the US.

tulsa: McGraw Realtors - The Premiere Real Estate Company in Owasso & Tulsa - 07/28/08 01:39 AM

When I "hung" my license with a company, I chose McGraw realtors because I knew there simply isn't a better company in Northeastern Oklahoma.
McGraw realtors is one of the oldest and locally owned real estate companies in Oklahoma.  Joe McGraw is a gentleman who believes that customer service is the most important player in any transaction.  We have more offices than any other company in the greater Tulsa area, more agents and we list and sell more real estate annually per dollar than any other company period.
You don't list and sell more real estate than others if you … (0 comments)

tulsa: McMansions - 06/23/08 01:51 AM
Here in Tulsa we have a battle going on between people with two different points of view. On the one side, you have the home owners in older and sometimes historical neighborhoods in Tulsa.  On the other side, you have prospective new home owners who are looking for a place to build.
The problem between these two groups is their view and understanding of redevelopment.  The existing home owners don't want the new home owners to come into their neighborhoods because the new home owners are building houses that are too big for the existing neighborhoods.  This happens when people look at … (1 comments)
