I was helping clean out a house that I recently sold. The out of state seller had held an estate sale, followed by a garage sale, and anything left over was to be either donated or thrown away. Closing was scheduled for the next day, and the listing agent and I had been sweeping, sorting, and tossing unwanted items for hours when she came across an old postcard. She casually showed me the postcard and I exclaimed "It's Princess Grace!". The listing agent looked at me as if to say, "Okay, who's (24 comments)
You can tell from the photo that it's in close proximity to the house. Really, it's too close for comfort, but the tree is too gorgeous to remove, unless it gets much taller.
I'm really enjoying Mississippi's delightful Spring weather, and I hope you enjoy my Friday photo.
Oh, the stories this house could tell if walls could talk. There's not much left of the old homeplace; the siding and tin roof have seen better days. This house has been a landmark for many years along Highway 471 in Brandon. I haven't researched the property to see who owns it. My guess is that it's either tied up in a family estate or someone is patiently waiting for expansion of the highway. I stopped my car on the side of the road to take the photo. While sitting there, one of Brandon's finest pulled up behind me to make sure I (15 comments)
Travel Fortification Street in Jackson MS and you'll do a double-take when you pass this two story home. I wish I knew the buildings' history, but I admire it whenever driving by. If any local Jacksonians follow my blog, please let me know the history. My internet search only reveals its' current use as an apartment building. It's located near New Stage Theater in Belhaven.
Zinnias in the Garden Yesterday while showing homes to a new buyer in Brandon at the Reservoir, I looked into the back yard and saw this vibrant burst of color. We couldn't resist admiring these spectacular Zinnias. They were so prolific, they were growing in between the patio pavers. I'm told they are easy to grow. Click HERE if you'd like to know more about this showy plant.
If you're in the market to buy or sell a home in the greater Jackson metro area, please contact me. I look forward to discussing your real estate needs. (10 comments)
friday photos: Friday Photos ~ Need Room To Grow?
- 06/22/17 07:44 PM
Talk about a unique container garden! This old truck couldn't be more charming. It's rusty bed is filled with knockout roses and what appears to be sweet potato vines. Blooming daylilies surround the truck, while old churns and milk jugs are used as plant stands. Someone else obviously shares my love of flowers and creative upcycling. I hope the photo makes you smile.
You all know my love of flowers. Recently I've been experimenting with photo editing apps and discovered how to make a collage. Most of these photos were taken from my yard, but a couple were taken on my nightly walk. The app I used was S Photo Editor for Android. If you look closely in the top middle photo, you'll see a couple of tomato plants that grew from seed. Both have been successfully transplanted, so maybe I'll enjoy home grown tomatoes this season. Happy Friday! (19 comments)
friday photos: Friday Photos ~ Would You Stop For This Sign?
- 06/07/17 07:49 PM
Compare the two signs below. The sign on the left is worn, tired, and faded. Some people might not notice, but I thought it reflected poorly on the neighborhood. Since I'll be placing one of these units on the market soon, I didn't want anything to create a negative impression as potential buyers drive through the community. So I snapped a photo and notified county officials. Within 48 hours, a pristine new stop sign was installed.
It only took a minute to make the call, but what a difference! (12 comments)
friday photos: Friday Fotos - Red Clover
- 04/21/17 09:47 AM
When I see red clover swaying in the breeze, a smile comes over me. You might see a simple ground cover or a pretty roadside wild flower, but I see a reminder of my young adulthood. This agricultural product is used along Mississippi highways to suppress weeds and amend the soil. My first marital home was located in a rural area with a ditch too steep to mow, so I asked my dad about the red clover I'd seen growing near his property. He gathered seeds from the clover (at my request) so I could grow the crimson plant at my house. My attempts (14 comments)
friday photos: The Barns of Rankin County

You've heard of The Bridges of Madison County, right? Welcome to The Barns of Rankin County. Truthfully, these photos were taken across several counties within 150 mile radius of Rankin County, but I couldn't pass up the pun. Did you know The Bridges of Madison County was released in 1995? It's hard to believe that film is over 20 years old. When I travel, I'm always on the lookout for interesting objects to photograph. Since real estate is in my blood, I'm naturally drawn to the various architectural styles of barns. Plus, red is one of my favorite colors.
Rustic is always charming.
This last photo isn't a barn but rather a dilapidated (7 comments)
