Camp Union soldiers marched where the Sacramento Zoonow sits and their parading grounds now enjoy 4 of the 5 baseball diamonds.  A restroom was transformed into the present day Tiny Tots Preschool.  Horses were rented from College Stables at the corner of Sutterville Road and Freeport Boulevard for Sacramentans to enjoy a day of riding. fairytale town: THE END OF THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD... - 03/08/10 01:17 PM
Last year I wrote a post about theYellow Brick Road at Fairytale Town in Land Park.  The road greeted visitors in a joyful celebration of the community.
It is being "paved" in 3 stages, the final deadline for participants approaching.  I was fortunate to be a part of the second phase.  I chose to let the world know how much my granddaughters, Cailyn and Bailey mean to me!
The number of names I recognize on other bricks is remarkable - truly a neighborhood project!
So, if you have someone you would like to celebrate, it isn't too late...act quickly! Here is the link … (3 comments)

fairytale town: FAIRYTALE TOWN IN WILLILAM LAND PARK..THEN, NOW AND WHAT'S TO COME AFTER 50 YEARS! - 12/29/08 04:31 PM
For those of us who grew up in Sacramento, Fairytale Town was a magical place.  The Crooked Mile, the multitude of curling, dizzying and fast slides, the "moat" and pirate ship...there was always so much to do!  And then there are the animals!  Did you know that the 3 Little Pigs, Bo Peeps sheep, the goats of Billy Goats Bluff, a cow and burro all lived there when they weren't working?  Watch out for the geese!  Speaking from personal experience, they will chase you!
Fairytale Town opened in 1959...the same year Barbie was introduced and Alaska and Hawaii became the last … (2 comments)

fairytale town: FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD... - 08/01/08 11:42 AM
Fairytale Town is hosting an opportunity to give the gift that never stops giving!  They are creating a "yellow brick road" just outside of the entrance.  You can purchase a 9" X 4.5" brick for $100 and personalize it.  Each brick can take up to 3 lines with 15 spaces per line.  Now you can commemorate that grandchilds birth day, an anniversary, your parents...well you get the idea!  How cool is this?  To order your brick, you just e-mail getabrick@fairytaletown.org or call 916 264 7462.  They are on their second release, the deadline being October 31st.
