dogs: Blonde, Cute And Bad to the Bone - 09/22/09 06:53 AM
When You’re Blonde Enough Nothing Else Matters

Eight years ago my wife adopted a three year old blonde cocker spaniel.   Kathy was won over by Abby’s big brown eyes and Jennifer Aniston haircut.  Abby was, essentially, already full grown and set in her ways, but I have a hunch that Kathy wouldn’t have been much of a taskmaster.  Kathy considers that having raised three pretty good kids, she’s entitled to a dog with challenging behavior.  I keep telling her that Marley pioneered the acceptability of bad dogs.  Kathy will only grudgingly agree that Abby isn’t exactly Lassie material.

This morning I took my dog Abby on a walk at about 7:00 eastern time.  Abby and I had a conversation about the economy.  Abby had some very wise words this morning.  Walking and talking with Abby is often the most productive time of my day.

You were my fifth grade teacher!"

dogs: A Dog's Appetite - 08/05/08 01:05 PM
Cookies, I understand. And of course a dog can be lured by dog treats. Milk Bone relies on that. But pickles? And cantaloupe rind?
We used to have a neurotic Sheltie, Crissy. Poor Crissy never seemed to really believe that we loved her. In her sunset years she got confused and wandered into the street on a cold December night. Poor Crissy.
It was 2000 and our youngest daughter had already left for college. We knew another dog would tie us down, but I think my wife secretly yearned for someone to "baby" now that all the kids had grown and … (6 comments)
