My Fascination with Weather
Winter;s Whiteness Blankets Lexington Kentucky
My memories are laced with planning my farming and gardening around the weather.  The weather dictates to a farmer much of what they can or cannot do.  I am no longer a farmer but I still do plant a garden and I am addicted to watching the weather on the Internet.
March Weather Madness
The largest snowfall of the year in Lexington was in March
Basketball crazed fans here in Lexington are all captivated by March Madness.   March Madness would be a good description of the weather here in … (2 comments)

lexington kentucky: Early Spring Gardening with the Grandchildren - 03/31/12 01:27 PM
Warm Weather Arrives Early
The recent summer like weather gave me the opportunity to spade some ground and start planting some seeds for the spring garden.
Little Ones Help
Little helpers watch Grandpa cover the arugula. Sam and Caroline helped me plant the beans last year.  This year I let them plant the onion sets, sow some radish seeds and some arugula.  The rows are not straight but the seeds are up and they are proud of their accomplishments.
The Wonder of It All
Caroline really enjoys eating everything we grow and Sam just enjoys helping Grandpa.  For me just watching … (2 comments)

lexington kentucky: Central Kentucky Market Report, January 2012, Surprise? - 02/09/12 12:47 PM
Home sales for Central Kentucky for the month of January in 2008, January 2009, and January 2011 were respectively:
2008 - about 500
2009 - about 300
2010 - less than 400
2011 - about 350
So what would you expect home sales in Central Kentucky would be for January 2012?
The weather has certainly been much warmer than last year.   Interest rates are the lowest in history. Employment has increased. All these would seem to show that home sales would be up.
Not only were home sales up but they increased almost a hundred percent from 2011 and were 57 percent higher … (0 comments)

lexington kentucky: Stability - Risking Ours Lives for One Another to Build Community - 01/18/12 04:13 AM
Stability - Committing myself anew to my community. I just finished reading Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove's "The Wisdom of Stability, Rooting Faith in a Mobile Culture."   It made me thankful for the many years that I had to really get connected with a large number of people in the Pacific Northwest.  Those 33 years in the same community of  Woodinville near Seattle, gave us so many life long friends that we will always love and cherish.   "The Wisdom of Stability...." also challenged me to work a little harder at getting connected to people in our new community here in Lexington.  When we … (1 comments)

2011 Prices of Homes in Central Kentucky Take a Surprise Drop After Last Years Gain - Still almost a 400 percent gain since 1971. Many people have been questioning the wisdom of buying a home. Take a look at this chart and think about the following. If you bought a Central Kentucky home in 1970 for $41,577 it would sell for almost $162,000 dollars today.   If you paid an average of $350.00 rent a month for that home you would have paid out $172,000 in rent and would have nothing to show for it. You have to live somewhere, why … (3 comments)

Interesting - Surprising - Shocking? Market report for homes near Hamburg in Lexington Kentucky, June 25 through December 22
Realtors expect price to be the most important thing in this market to get a house sold quickly.  What is surprising about this analysis of the homes near Hamburg is that price was not the most important.
Analyzing the data it is obvious that condition for these buyers was more important than the price. Another thing that is clear is that if the house is larger and in great shape it will sell quickly compared to the other homes. So … (0 comments)
