Diet doesn't have to mean DIE with a T! Healthy Weightloss!

Diets will never work because most people go into one thinking: this is only until 'x' amount of weight is gone.
In actual fact if you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to be in it for the long haul, for life! Losing weight and staying thin means a change in lifestyle. Not just eating differently, but shopping, cooking, and livingdifferently. Daily activity, getting out and enjoying life, savoring the food you eat. That's what it should be about! Not just a number on a scale or … (9 comments)

The Deaf Wife Problem, Friday Funnee!
Bert feared his wife Susan wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid.Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem. The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss.
'Here's what you do,' said the Doctor, 'stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you.  If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 … (24 comments)

Flash back on the flashlight! Today's Trivia

Handheld lights used in the early days had carbon-zinc batteries that did not last very long.

To keep the light burning; the user could only turn it on for a short time and then had to turn it off to allow the battery to recover.

That's how they originally became known as a flashlight.

I don't think I'd want to be using something like that today out in the woods!

fluff my house: 5 foods I buy every time I go buy groceries! Healthy weight loss! - 04/05/11 04:57 AM
I realized a long time ago I am a creature of habit and there are things I must have in the house to help me on my weight loss journey.
Every time I get groceries I find the same things in my cart:
Fat Free Yogurt - Yogurt has so many uses, it's not just for breakfast anymore! Having said that I do use it for breakfast, in a smoothie with frozen fruit, and then topped with a high fiber cereal. If you buy plain FF yogurt, you can use it instead of sour cream, although there are FF sour creams … (31 comments)

The Trucker and the Waitress... Tuesday Tickle!
A trucker came into a Truck Stop Cafe' and placed his order. He said Iwant three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards.'
The brand new waitress, not wanting to appear stupid, went to the kitchen and said to the cook, 'This guy out there just ordered three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards.....What does he think this place is, an auto parts store?'

'No,' the cook said. 'Three flat tires ...

Trivial tenths; hope you're not one!

The word decimate is Latin for decimare, stemming from decimus, or "tenth." "Decimate" came into being from motivational techniques employed by Roman commanders.

Whenever a legion performed dismally during combat, every tenth soldier was killed.

It might also be where "his number came up" comes from!

 Helping out a stranger...Sunday Funnee!

A man and his wife were awakened at 3:00 am by a loud pounding on the door. The man gets up and goes to the door where a drunken stranger, standing in the pouring rain, is asking for a push.  "Not a chance," says the husband, "it is 3:00 in the morning!"  He slams the door and returns to bed.  "Who was that?" asked his wife.  "Just some drunk guy asking for a push," he answers.  "Did you help him?" she asks.

"No, I did not, it is 3:00 in the morning and it is … (19 comments)

Got Milk(y Way)?

Last night I watched Nova on PBS, the program called:Hunting the Edge of Space.

It talked about the history of telescopes from Galileo's discovery of the light refraction telescope and the fact that the Earth was not the center of our Solar system by drawing the phases of a planet and how it had to be moving around the sun to have that happen.

Then looked at Newton's reflector telescope and how that made viewing stars clearer and got rid of the rainbow that looking through a lens produced, because different colours of the … (17 comments)

Here's 4 for today:

Blackberries, great in yoghurt, salads, on cereal or hey, even by themselves this fruit packs a punch with very low amounts of Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol), Folate, Magnesium, Potassium and Copper, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Manganese.

Blueberries, I can put blueberries in anything! I love them. Adding these to whole wheat or buckwheat pancakes will make you a hero on Saturday mornings!  Blueberries are low … (28 comments)

What gives you the right to throw your trash in my neighbourhood?
I recently read a post by Norma Toering about people littering. And it reminded me of an incident in our neighbourhood.
We live in a quiet cul-de-sac with a large park in the middle. My husband's friend always comes over Friday evenings after work and they will either play foosball in the winter or frisbee in the summer when they're not sitting on the deck enjoying the sunshine.
One summer evening a couple years ago we were sitting on the deck, which faces the park, and watched a car drive … (17 comments)

Honestly officer, it's a fake gun...
I just read a blog post by Nick J Pappas about a sign in front of his cousins shop that someone reported to the local authorities.
It reminded me of when we first moved into our cul-de-sac. It's a quiet area with mature trees and some of the original residents still living here. There's a large park in the middle of the cul-de-sac and we don't even see the houses on the other side. Very tranquil.
The second summer we were here we noticed some activity down the block. One of the houses across the street … (14 comments)

The trivial truth about trivia!

Once again the useless knowledge website has come to the aid of filling my head with stuff I can only use at dinner parties when I'm trying to avoid the buffet!

The word trivia derives from the Latin tri + via, which translates as "three streets."  In Roman times, as a  public service  at the intersection of three streets, there was an information type booth whereinformation about the surrounding area was posted for travelers. People soon found the data was so useless that citizens … (8 comments)

Next time you have a bad day at work think of this guy.
An email from Bob,
~Hi Sue,
Just another note from your bottom-dwelling brother.
Last week I had a bad day at the office. I know you've been feeling down lately at work, so I thought I would share my dilemma with you to make you realize it's not so bad after all.
Before I can tell you what happened to me, I first must bore you with a few technicalities of my job. As you know, my office lies at the bottom of the … (21 comments)

The invitation said come as you are. So I came hungry!
A lot of the time when we are trying to watch our weight we wonder if we can actually go out to a restaurant or a friends house for dinner..

The answer is yes!  But we have to decide before we leave our home what exactly is our plan for the evening.

Are we going to behave and eat sensibly and only what we require? Or are we going to say to heck with it, it's one night and its a special occasion and I'll get … (4 comments)

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard.  I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.  He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out...
The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside … (25 comments)

fluff my house: Sunday Funnee! - 03/13/11 05:55 AM
Sunday Funnee!
For those of you who are not Canadians, a little explanation is in order. A newfie is a person from the province of New Foundland. They are the most down to earth, generous folks you will ever come across. (The airplane groundings after 9/11 have shown that). The thing about people from Newfoundland is; they seem to have their own language. Even though it's English, often people from other provinces don't understand them and 'fuggetaboudit' when they talk quickly. Because of that, people tend to poke fun at these wonderful people.
That being said, they have a natural inclination to working … (19 comments)
