home improvement: Interesting home improvements - 02/08/18 06:08 AM

We as agents run across interesting home improvements all the time some are really nice, and others fall into the category of, what were you thinking? The picture above shows a granite counter top with a short granite back splash, topped by...stack on linoleum tiles. And to top it off, they were peeling off the wall and falling down.
I understand that sometimes homeowners are trying to spruce up the house on a limited budget, but in this case I believe leaving the wall painted may have been the smarter move.
There were indications elsewhere in the home that the owner had taken a few … (3 comments)

home improvement: Week 10 of the great adventure - 12/07/14 09:29 PM
Yes, this is week 10 of the home improvement saga. Not much happened in week 9. The kitchen is now complete and we are filling up the new cabinets with all the kitchen stuff that was stored in the guest bedroom all this time. We have started moving everything that is on the carpeted floors to other areas so that we can re-carpet. This means a complete bedroom set, fish tank, piano, sofa, etc.
The staircase is set to be demolished today. We started a week ago, but I stopped it because I did not like they way it was looking. … (5 comments)

home improvement: Week 7, Day 5 & 6 - 11/23/14 01:41 AM
The guys from the shower door company came in yesterday and installed the floating frame shower glass around the master shower. The question I have, is why does everything have to start with making more holes? In the picture to the right you can see Dave drilling into the tiles. This is where the clips will be attached that will hold the glass. But more holes, really?
The tile is really hard and these guys went through several bits to get the job done.

It takes two guys to get the glass all placed correctly and set in the metal brackets. … (2 comments)

home improvement: Week 6, Day 3 of , well, not much. - 11/12/14 08:29 AM
Today in the great home remodel, there was a bit of progress...but not much. The trusty plumber came this morning and worked all day. I suspect he may need tomorrow and Friday to complete the Master bath fixtures, but once he does the whole house re-piping of the plumbing will be complete! I will bet that the plumber will be happier even than me to be done with this huge project!
The carpet guy came by this morning as well and remeasured the carpeted floors on the main level. This includes the guest bedroom, hallway and great room. Soon as the … (0 comments)

home improvement: Week 6, day 1 of the never ending remodel! - 11/10/14 08:54 PM
No pictures today of the remodeling project at my home. Did I run out of film? Did I forget? Was there so much dust on the lens that I couldn't see? Nope to all of these. The answer is that not much happened yesterday.
There is a natural (Un-natural?) ebb and flow to a project this large. The logistics of getting all the trades in and out at the right times means there will be times when no one is present. That was yesterday, almost.
I did notice that the dry wall guy had been to the house. I could tell by the … (5 comments)

home improvement: Week 2, Day 2 of the Kitchen remodel - 10/14/14 08:16 AM
The heroes of the day so far! These guys showed up this morning to patch up my kitchen, which is full of holes made by the electrician and the plumbers! I was never so happy to see two guys as I was these.

They have patched all the holes, taped and mudded the seams. They will be back at a later date to finish the seams and to paint. At that point you should not be able to tell if there ever … (4 comments)

home improvement: Bam! Crash! Thud. - 10/06/14 12:04 AM
No, not bumps in the night. No, these are the sounds emanating from upstairs. There are 5 guys literally destroying my kitchen. Today is day 1 of the new kitchen remodel.

The picture above is how the kitchen looked last night after working all weekend to clean out all the cupboards, and get ready for this mornings demolition. I took all the cabinet doors off so that I could save the hinges. We have had a few break over time and they are not readily available anymore, so we … (7 comments)
