marietta: The Big Chicken

Yesterday I wrote about a Turkey. Today, a chicken. Don't get me wrong, I am not in a "Fowl" mood, just like talking about quirky things in the area. So, what's up with a big chicken? Not a big chicken, but THE big chicken. In a neighboring town, Marietta, Ga. there exists a landmark known by all. So much so that the locals offer directions that always include this landmark in their instructions. Where is the so and so, they will ask. There is never a dull moment in the are unless you specifically want one! Marietta Ga. is home to a very large Lockheed plant. Right next to one of the main gates in the Marietta Museum Air Wing, an outdoor parking lot (15 acres) of really cool planes! For $5 per person, my wife and I went on a guided tour by a retired Navy flyer and ex-Lockheed employee. This 2 hour tour took us inside and around many Vietnam and later era planes. Coming soon! This phrase has generated much heated discussion amongst agents recently. Some say that by advertising "Coming Soon" the agent is trying to get buyers and sell the home before it goes on the market. Others say that they are just creating excitement during the week before the actual listing goes public. I fall into the later half of this argument. First of all, I have no intention of circumventing the process. It is my job as a listing agent to create exposure for my client's home. Marietta, Georgia. Locally known by many as May-Retta, and by many more as the town just north of the Big Chicken. That I will cover in a seperate post! Like many southern towns, Marietta has a terrific town square. Right smack in the middle of the downtown area, this park is surrounded by government buildings, restaurants, and retail shops. There is also a terrific live theatre there as well. When I was there this past weekend, they were preparing for a music fest, and many pople were out enjoying the park like atmosphere.
