montana: Photo of the Day: Missoula Osprey, Pioneer League Baseball
- 08/17/17 06:34 AM
This was an evening baseball game in Missoula. During the time I lived there, Missoula got a Pioneer League baseball team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks. With Mount Sentinel in the background, Missoula is a great place to enjoy a night game. The summer nights are long and warm, perfect for enjoying a cold beer and a baseball game. (3 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day: Clark Fork River, Superior, Montana

The Clark Fork River flows through Western Montana from Anaconda to the Idaho border. This stretch is in Superior, Montana about 60 miles west of Missoula. Superior is a small town, not a stop light to be found. It is however a great place to fish, hunt and hike. This particular stretch of river is great to float and fish in particular. (1 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day: Bitterroot Mountains
- 08/17/17 06:09 AM
Just south of Missoula, Montana lies the Bitterroot River valley and the Bitterroot Mountains. This photograph was taken on a clear, spring afternoon as the wind was blowing the snow off the tops of the peaks. This was somewhere near Hamilton, Montana (I don't recall the name of this particular peak). (3 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day: Backcountry Sunrise
- 08/11/17 01:27 AM
This shot I captured as the light broke the horizon while I was out elk hunting along the Montana/Idaho border above Missoula Lake in Mineral County. I was able to find an old fallen tree to get depth of field. I wish I had put something down to keep the grass out of the foreground, but still very happy with the shot. (6 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day: Where Eagles Fly
- 08/08/17 07:34 AM
If you have ever spent any time in Western Montana, you will no doubt have seen Bald Eagles fishing along the Bitterroot or Clark Fork Rivers. Having lived in and around Missoula for a lot (not nearly enough though) of years, I had many opportunities to photograph Bald Eagles (another one of my favorite subjects). This is one of my favorites. This eagle was soaring above Trout Creek and began to dive when I captured this shot. (4 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day: Old Red Barns
- 08/08/17 07:19 AM
These are a couple of old red barns I found off a dirt road on the west side of MacDonald Pass just outside of Helena, Montana. If you have been following my Photo of the Day posts, you will know I love photographing western life in the states. Cowboys, barns, wide open land, I love everything western. I hope you enjoy. montana: Photo of the Day - Burlington Northern Sante Fe Rolling Through MT
- 07/30/17 01:33 AM
One major part of life in Western Montana is the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway line. Montana being between Seattle and Chicago, there is a never-ending rumble of the freight trains along the tracks in pretty much every mountain valley. Once Montana gets into your soul, and it will, you sometimes find it hard to sleep when you don't have that comforting sound of the BNSF singing you to sleep. Ask a Montanan, they'll tell you. montana: Photo of the Day - Tilt A Whirl at the Western Montana Fair, Missoula
- 07/30/17 01:10 AM
I love long-exposure, evening and night shots. This photo was taken at dusk, as the light was fading fast. I love the kaleidascope effect of the colors blending together as the tilt-a-whirl spins. I can almost smell the corndogs and cotton candy looking at this picture. There is something about a western Montana county fair that nothing else on Earth can do for your soul. (5 comments)
montana: Photo of the Day - Paradise Montana Barn
- 07/30/17 01:01 AM
I used to drive past this barn a couple times a week when I lived in Montana. It is situated just outside of Paradise Montana along Hwy 200 and the Clark Fork River. You can't be an avid photographer in the western states, especially Montana, without finding old barns beautiful. This was always one of my favorites and I love how the distressed white barn looks with the blue sky. (2 comments)

One thing I miss most about Montana is the summertime and the local rodeos. Whether it is Missoula, Superior, Arlee, Miles City... you name it, you will find a rodeo in the summer. This year's NRA sanctionaed rodeo will take place on Aug 4th and 5th at the Mineral County Fairgrounds in Superior, Montana. montana: Wordless Wednesday - Bald Eagle
- 06/12/13 12:45 AM
This eagle was perched about Trout Creek, near Superior Montana. I had to stop and take a pic of him. (0 comments)
This is one of my favorite photos I've taken of Missoula. THis is the main hall of the University of Montana.
