interest rates: The Mid Week Report...What do all of Wall Streets report mean to you? - 12/05/13 01:03 AM
The midweek report is a day late this week because I needed to digest the results of all of the reports. It is a very confusing week. Step back for a moment. While the economy was showing serious softness the stock market was soaring because company’s profits were growing. Now this week the economy is showing some strength and the stock market is falling as the interest rates are rising. The only housing report was new home sales and that picture was at odds with itself as well. New Home sales were up significantly across the country but the median price … (0 comments)

interest rates: The Week Ahead...What it means to you. - 06/12/11 02:57 AM
Market Focus: A data heavy schedule this week may bring more volatility to an already weary investor. This weeks inflation reports will be closely watched as oil remains stubbornly around $100 and other commodities are at their highs. Watch to see if this weeks reports point to higher inflation and slower groth.
No Reports.

interest rates: The Week Ahead...Why Investors Care - 04/18/11 02:13 AM
Market Focus: While last week was packed with reports and speeches this week has less action. However this week is focused on Real Estate. So let's think about location, location, location. Also in a shortened week (Friday the markets are closed) look for activity around the globe and earnings to dictate direction.
Housing Market Index: The National Association of Home Builders produces a housing market index based on a survey in which respondents from this organization are asked to rate the general economy and housing market conditions. interest rates: The Week Ahead....Why Investors Care - 04/11/11 02:05 AM
Market Focus: With very little in the way of economic reports early this week the focus is on inflation. Producer price index and consumer price index reports are at the end of the week. Also with the dollar falling look for oil to continue its push toward $120 per barrel. The first round of the budget battle is over so earnings and commodity costs will be the focus of the week.
Monday: Nothing of Substance to report today.

interest rates: The Misery Index has a New Name... - 02/07/11 10:54 PM
There is actually an economic index named "The Misery Index".  The aptly named index was created in the 70's by Chicago economist Robert Barro. It combined the headline unemployment rate and the inflation rate. With all of the recent talk about inflation I thought it would be interesting to see how todays "misery" index stacked up to the 70's. Its latest reading was 10.9, which is up a shade from its level in mid-2010 but just half its 1980 peak of 22 and below its recent recessionary high water mark of 12.7. There is no doubt that the financial crisis and … (2 comments)

interest rates: The Week Ahead.... - 02/07/11 01:26 AM
The week is ahead is light on reports. The highlights may be the several speeches from Federal Reserve officials, including Ben Bernanke on Wednesday. Three Treasury auctions will test the bond market's appetite for bargain buying following a recent jump in benchmark yields. Also on the radar of rate watchers is an announcement from the Obama Administration that will hope will provide directional guidance on the future of the GSEs.

Regarding the tax credit for housing, it appears that President Obama now has the bill on his desk this evening to extend the closing date for eligible first time and move up buyers who went under contract prior to April 30, 2010, but did not close yesterday on their new purchases; that extension will be until September 30, 2010.
