business: Ethics & The REALTOR® - 03/09/24 05:23 AM
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams,
and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will
meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
HENRY DAVID THOREAU

Members of the National Association of REALTORS® are required to take the Code of Ethics training every three years. Currently, this extends the current cycle deadline from March 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024. Although training wasn't required for another year, I took it on March 7, 2024, because ethics is that important.
There is a section in the NAR Ethics Manual which references "Aspirational Concepts of the Preamble to the Code," followed … (8 comments)

business: What's In Store for 2024? Are You Prepared? Part 2 - 12/29/23 11:46 AM
As we sail away from 2023, do you have the confidence and poise to sail into a new year? This feature photograph was taken at Silver Lakes in Grapevine. I love sailing. In the business of real estate, a good business owner knows, like a good sailor, when to anticipate when times are about to change. The fact that 2024 will begin in about 48 hours, means we are going to change!

The best skippers anticipate and prepare for change and effectively adjust their sails. Here are some ideas that may help you.
Prepare thoroughly beforehand. Confidence builds when one has the … (23 comments)

business: Creating Glass Blown Art & How It Translates to Business - 10/25/23 06:08 AM
They say everyone needs a hobby. Actually, I have been so busy working outside of the home since the age of thirteen, I never had time to enjoy a hobby until July 2023, followed by August 2023, and October 21, 2023. In celebration of the month of Autumn and Halloween, I created a pumpkin. To review previous art pieces, below are my links from ActiveRain:

business: Throwback Thursdays - Wyonegonic Camps - 06/09/23 05:14 AM
Wyonegonic Camps Established in 1902 to Present
Denmark, Maine

Thirty-Six years ago I was hired as a Bookkeeper at Wyonegonic Camps and my children were invited to participate in all Camp activities for the duration of my employment which lasted five years until I was offered full time work in Northern, Illinois. My son's 10 year duration at Winona, the brother camp, and my daughter's 8 years at Wyonegonic lasted longer until both were placed in Camp Counselor staff positions and later found meaningful work closer to home or abroad. Both transitioned from being children into responsible young adults and accomplished success.

business: Truth or Consequences - An Enlightenment Lesson - 01/21/23 03:11 AM
Yesterday I commented on Michael Jacobs post on grammar and punctuations. As usual, he was kind, understanding, and to my knowledge did not seem to mind my long comment. His comments and posts are always positive. But then again, I watched too many old movies and compare him to Clark Gable, who always knew how to say the right words, at the right time, in all the character roles he played. Nonetheless, I went down that old rabbit hole of mine recalling the old nuns teaching cursive so seriously, the Manual Typewriter I learned to type on in High School, selectric … (21 comments)

business: Networking & Trees Have A Lot In Common - 11/09/22 09:34 PM
"In a forest of a hundred thousand trees, no two leaves
are alike. And no two journeys along the same path are alike."
---Ralph Waldon Emerson

THE HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW SPECIAL ISSUE dated November 8, 2022, "The New Rules of Networking" has good articles.  The Editors on page 2, paragraph one writes:
"BUILDING EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS is a requirement of good management and leadership. But research shows that during the pandemic people's professional and personal networks shrank by close to 16%." I decided to test whether or not the quality of networking improved or declined.
On the afternoon of November 9th, I signed up to hear a … (15 comments)

business: Getting a Mortgage When You're Self-Employed - 06/02/22 05:57 AM
No two transactions in Real Estate are alike but one of the most difficult ones I was involved in happened when I represented a client who was self-employed. He was doing what he does professionally for more than thirty years but getting approved for a mortgage took him down the path of no, no, no, from different lenders. The worst ones were the ones who said, they can get it done but could not.

When Buyers trust their Lenders and/or Real Estate Agent who breaks their trust it feels like bull S#^! W-2 employees are business owners who make many sacrifices. If … (17 comments)

business: Part 2: What's Your Story for AR February Challenge - 02/03/22 05:08 AM
This month’s AR Challenge is “What’s Your Story,” hosted by Carol Williams and Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker. This is part 2 of my story. In the first three photographs you can see where I worked and lived at Wyonegonic Camps in Denmark, Maine. On days off, my Office partner Ora and I would hang out at her home where she prepared New England homemade meals, to give me a break from camp cooking. Or we'd visit charming New England restaurants, and tour places of interest in New Hampshire or Maine beaches. What I thoroughly enjoyed was canoeing on Moose … (46 comments)

business: Sam Walton Motivator & Phenomenal Entrepreneur - 11/10/21 07:44 AM
Whether you shop at Wal-Mart or not is irrelevant. If you are a business owner, you can appreciate the success story of how Sam Walton grew his business and how his legacy continues to prosper long after his death.

The first time I heard about Wal-Mart was when the store came to Round Lake, Illinois in 1989. At that time, I was living in Lake County in Northern, IL, attending College for the first time in between my High School located in Cook County in Chicago, and having children. I was in an Economics Class and had to write about a phenomenal … (14 comments)

business: Leave No Senior Behind - 10/23/18 02:51 AM
Inspirational thoughts for Tuesday, 10/23/18
by Patricia Feager

"Family life is the backbone of mankind, and that life is
dependent upon mutual giving, sharing, and receiving from each other.
It entails the proper use of each other's successes and
failures for mutual upbuilding."
--- Mother Angelica

I was inspired by this landscape scene on an old country road in Texas on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Thus, the composition for this blog post. For business owners, people are thinking about fourth quarter, meeting their goals, analyzing budgets, etc. The holidays are drawing near. Have you thought about family members, neighbors, friends, particularly seniors who may be alone? I call them the … (28 comments)

business: What I love About My Job - Sustained Creativity - 02/02/17 07:03 AM
©by Patricia Feager, 2/2/2017
February 2017 Challenge: What I Love About My Job

Our business is contingent on our dealings with other people. It begins with the first impression. A sloppy appearance, or being unprepared, leaves a last impression - sorry Charlie! If our creative self stems from love, happiness, sincerity, and passion, people will gravitate towards that feeling of positivism, e.g., a buyer positively wants to buy, a seller positively wants to sell, and a Real Estate Agent positively wants a sale. Vital to success is the creative exchange of truth, information, trust, and the willingness to work together. It all begins … (58 comments)
