Being married to a veteran, who served 20 years in the Army and both of my sons (SIL) serving in the military, one as a Marine reservist and the other active duty in the Air Force, this is very dear to my heart. Lakeland's CommonGround Park was originally thought of from two Lakeland-area mothers of children with special needs, who contacted the Parks and Recreation Department with their suggestion. After four years of fundraising, planning and construction, this park opened up for all children ages 2-12 earlier this year. CommonGround Park's playground is designed to have fun play experiences, as well as aid children in their cognitive, physical and emotional development.
I just love when Lakeland's community leaders, various fund raising organizations, such as the Rotary Clubs, businesses and volunteers come together and create such a place for children.

Lakeland real estate sales activity decreased for August, there were 166 homes sold down 12% from the previous month of 188. While prices are also lagging behind the numbers from last year, home sales increased by 27% from August 2008 in Lakeland, Florida.
While the median prices held steady for August at $130,000 for homes sold in Lakeland when compared to the previous month. Average sold prices decreased to $136,324 ($73.75 per sq.ft.) or 8% from the previous month and 13% from the previous year, respectively for Lakeland Real Estate.

However, last month sold prices dropped only 2.66% from the previous month. The good news is that the number of homes sold is steady for the past three months, increasing at a small rate to 156 Lakeland residential real estate sold in May compared to 154 homes sold the previous month.

Distressed Properties continue to influence the Lakeland Florida housing market. Lakeland's average sales price of $128,093 ($69.22 per sq.ft.) for April slumped 25% from the previous year, prices dropped also 5 ¾ % from the previous month. A slight increase in properties sold of 154 Lakeland properties were sold in April compared to 152 homes sold the previous month.
