feng shui: Freeport's Nautical Mile -- A GREAT place to visit on Long Island, New York by Feng Shui Long Island - 05/30/07 03:16 PM
It was beautiful out today.  And I had the day to get out and have some fun (finally!).  A choice to clean the house, try and fix the garden or just go out and play.  You have to know #3 won hands down but I needed the down time.
I went to Freeport in Long Island, New York.  Spring and Summer are really the only time to go there and it's lovely, like a little seaside tourist town.  A few fun facts about the Freeport Nautical Mile:  It was originally a stars and artists colony and many of the streets are named … (2 comments)

feng shui: Sex and The City: A Feng Shui Blog?? New York City - 05/29/07 12:46 PM
No, sorry, not this time.  Although I CANwrite about Feng Shui Sex, I'll leave that to a later blog.  I was driving home today after a long meeting and just wanted to get home, turn on some mindless TV and relax.  I have HBO On Demand and they were re-running episodes of Sex in the City, one of their terrific series.
Yes, I know---the show was at times outrageous and sometimes completely "out of line."  But it gave us many messages as well.  If you watched it, you'll know what I'm talking about.  It talked about four ladies passion for New York … (7 comments)

feng shui: An OPEN Blog to All Home Stagers: What would YOU like to see added?? - 05/27/07 05:04 PM
I thought I would direct this post directly to the Home Stagers to see if  you have opinions, comments or suggestions on exactly what YOU would like to see represented to Real Estate Agents during a Presentation.  Yes, I know, I primarily speak of Feng Shui.  But for years I have been speaking to Realtors about the advantages of Staging because they are so closely related and I feel they work hand in hand.  Since I have two speaking engagements coming up and I'm trying to put them together, now's the time to tell me.  Am I leaving out things you … (5 comments)

feng shui: What to do When you can't SPEAK at a Presentation: Run for cover?? Or take a Risk? - 05/24/07 02:56 PM
Even Feng Shui consultants can get sick....I believe we get sick when we know we should SLOW DOWN but don't take the "subtle" (and sometimes not so subtle) hints from our bodies.  So something will come along and knock us off our feet.
Last week I was sick, Bronchitis and then it turned into Laryngitis.  I had rescheduled as many appointments as I could but had a rather large Presentation today that I did NOT want to have to call off.  As always, I Mapquested the lovely town of Williston Park, Long Island and started on my way a full TWO hours … (11 comments)

feng shui: For Those Eternal Optimists -- Should we be more PRACTICAL??? - 05/22/07 02:11 PM
I have been accused (and rightly so) of being an "Eternal Optimist" all my life.  And have been told to get my head out of the Clouds and my feet on the Earth, where they belong.  For many people, that is the way they were born or raised and I'm not sure where this particular trait comes from.  IS it something we are born with?  Or is it something that is instilled in us as Children, to reach for the Sky?  I know a few things:  that I was raised to at LEAST try to do what I had my heart … (13 comments)

feng shui: Did you Choose your Profession? Or did IT choose YOU?? How many of you can say you LOVE what you Do? - 05/21/07 02:04 PM
Many of us I believe from reading the wonderful MEME'sthat are posted have had many career changes during their lifetimes.  While some have had more then others, being on the Activerain Community has made me wonder if you truly LOVED the work you are doing now?  It is something you fell into or is it something, perhaps without reason, that you felt DRAWN to and decided to pursue?  Despite the difficulties you have encountered (or are Still encountering), you know and feel THIS is what you were meant to do?
Or is it a "stepping stone" to something that moves you closer … (25 comments)

feng shui: Some of the Different Schools of Feng Shui -- And why you're so Confused!! By Feng Shui Long Island - 05/19/07 04:24 PM
Using Feng Shui can seem daunting.  If you read one book, you might understand it; read another and you'll start getting confused.  The harder you try to learn, the many different schools of thought you come against until you get lost.  Here are some of the different forms and schools of Feng Shui and why they're all SO different:
There are no early books on the subject because it wasn't permitted to be written. It was considered Sacred Information only to be passed down from Mentor to Student.  We estimate it's origins to be between 3 to 5,000 years old.  While it's … (16 comments)

feng shui: Some people just Get It---What would you change in this house, if anything? Feng Shui in Centerport, Long Island - 05/15/07 01:49 PM
Most of the clients I receive calls from have read a book (or two, or three) about Feng Shui.  They call either because the books confused them so much or some scare them so badly they are afraid to touch a thing.  No doubt there are many books out there that use scare tactics and to me, that's a shame.  Feng Shui is meant to make you feel better in your surroundings.  If you change something around and it just doesn't "feel right," change it back; believe me, nothing disastrous is going to happen to you!  And only YOU and other … (21 comments)

feng shui: He Said, She Said.....Do Men EVER get a Say in Decorating?? A Post for Women - 05/08/07 02:17 PM
I hate to admit this, but I see it more often then not.  I am generally called in to give Feng Shui perspectives on homes for couples.  In years past the husbands were not home or made themselves scarce but now they WANT to hear and sit in on the consultations.
Often times there are disputes about what should go where, what kind of furniture will be purchased, how a home will be decorated and in what style.  And for some reason, when it's "home turf," the husbands always lose out---they don't get a say in colors to paint, furniture (or the … (9 comments)

feng shui: Ok, Let's try ONE simple Feng Shui Cure---for keeping MONEY - 05/03/07 04:23 PM
As mentioned in previous posts, the bathroom in Feng Shui is considered the WORST room in the house.  Why?  It has drains and many consultants see your money as being "flushed away"by all the drain energy.  Particulary if they are located in your WEALTH area.  Prospective buyers who LOVED a home have been persuaded not to buy one if there is a bathroom located there.
(As an aside, to find your WEALTH area in the home, stand at your front door.  Go to the Back Left Hand Corner of your home and check to see what's going on there.  Is there a … (23 comments)

feng shui: Scientists LIKE Feng Shui? What's up with that?? - 04/27/07 03:04 AM
I rarely have an interaction with Scientists--or Chemists.  Ok, I've actually NEVER had an interaction with them in any way.  My beliefs and theirs, I thought were VERY different.  If it can't be Proven by some scientific theory, then it is just fiction to them, a "new age" thought process that doesn't mean a thing.  And in many ways, I see their point.  I often have people say "PROVE it to me" and want things backed up with evidence; evidence I am unable to produce.  Would the testimonials PROVE anything to them?  Not a thing.
About two months ago I was called … (1 comments)

feng shui: Lovely Long Island, New York---Out East and Loving it! - 04/25/07 12:27 PM
I love what I do; I never know where my travels are going to take me (and I sure could use a GPS!), but I am always running into things I haven't seen before or seen in many years.  I was working out East on Long Island this past weekend, further than I usually like to travel but with speaking to this person on the phone, made a connection.  She had been in her house two years and she and her family had been having some health issues.
I know, to some, that Feng Shui may sound ridiculous to help address health … (2 comments)

feng shui: Can you Improve on PERFECTION? A Feng Shui Perspective - 04/17/07 02:43 PM
I am fortunate enough to get called to some incredible places with "behind the scenes" things I never would have seen if I hadn't been working.  In the fall I received a call from a gentleman who owned a beautiful restaurant in Suffolk County, on Long Island, New York.  He reported that for the last several years he found his money going out just as fast as it came IN.  He had once had a Feng Shui Consultation at his home but didn't connect with that particular practitioner.
I was familiar with the Restaurant, it is well known on Long Island … (5 comments)

feng shui: Some Feng Shui Advice for that Diverse Market: by Your Feng Shui Long Island Consultant - 04/06/07 03:56 AM
This was originally posted months ago. I know there has been some questions lately regarding Feng Shui and a Diverse Market and thought I would repost this in case it was overlooked.
I know that many Agents are having a somewhat difficult time with the diversity of clients they are getting.  When targeting to a diverse market, both Asians and people of Indian Culture (where it is called Vaastu) are looking for different things.  Feng Shui is a broad area, but here's a few tips to get them IN the front door:
The FRONT door, in many cultures, is considered the "Mouth of … (10 comments)

feng shui: Home Stagers---Are you thinking LARGE enough? - 04/01/07 07:35 AM

Years ago in Feng Shui, I remember feeling thrilled if I were called in to do two or three homes in a month...it was unheard of!  No one imagined, back then, the impact it would take on.  In thinking of the aspects of Home Staging and seeing so many of the beautiful websites you have with terrific Before and After pictures, I wondered if you were thinking LARGE enough?
I don't recall seeing on the sites anything about DESIGN SERVICES for Businesses.  I know you're not Interior Designers but many businesses and even Corporations may not be looking for that.  Just someone … (7 comments)

feng shui: A Palette Of Colors: Before and After pictures that come Alive with Color! - 03/22/07 05:25 AM
I LOVE to use color in a space.  And I love it more when my clients agree with me. Too often their tastes vary from white to off white :)  The following pictures are a few quick before and after shots of what we created with Color in a Wholistic Center.  The clients were thrilled (and so were the patients :)!  We wanted each treatment room to have it's own feel, depending on the service the patient was getting.  This is called the "Cafe of Life" in lovely Long Island, New York.

feng shui: The Secret, Part Two---Yes, there are other "Secrets" - 03/09/07 11:27 AM

Having watched Larry King last night, it was interesting to hear the critics of "The Secret," the motivational DVD of the century. Don't rely on it, you were warned.  Many of us have for years and found out, it WORKS.
There are so many misconceptions about Feng Shui (and we work using the "secrets,") I thought I'd try to clear some up.  What does the secret teach you?  That you can have a life of prosperity and abundance in all areas, by setting Intentions, sending out good Energy and believing that it works.  You must take actions as well … (37 comments)

feng shui: Hi All! - 03/06/07 02:41 AM
Thank you, Val, for getting me back into this site!  If I could figure out how to invite people (or accept them for that matter!) I would use it more often.
I'm afraid to asked what I missed, though I see the site has grown SO much!  How wonderful that is.  I believe finally Realtors are becoming more open to both Feng Shui (Thank goodness for The Secret :)! AND Home Staging which is so necessary in this market.
Feng Shui hit the West Coast more then 10 years ago but it took awhile for everyone to realize that it just wasn't … (2 comments)

feng shui: Home Staging with Feng Shui and Style - 10/26/06 12:16 PM
Hi!
I have found that many Feng Shui Principles are used in Home Staging and things Feng Shui Consultants have been doing for years with the "buzz" words of Home Staging, Home Redesign and Curb Appeal.  One example is Home Stagers will open the blinds for a light and airy feeling.  We see it as letting the "outside energy" in.  Or clearing a path to the front door and making sure the door is well groomed.  In Feng Shui, the front door is the "Mouth of Chi" and the pathway to it and the entranceway are always addressed.  We re-arrange the furniture … (5 comments)
