halifax: As American dollar gets devalued globally - Will housing get a boost? - 10/19/07 04:26 AM
Here is a new idea that hasn't hit the news yet. As crude oil breaks the $90 dollar a barrel mark -the news is saying that the price is now edging higher more due to the fact the dollar is slipping against world currencies.- Especially European. Could this translate into a faster real estate turnaround as the world starts to buy homes in down markets?
Even in Canada - as we are tied to the American Dollar - We are starting to certainly see a lot of British families who are sick of the high cost of living in London -coming our … (3 comments)

halifax: Eastward Ho? Wait now -what? - 09/14/07 01:44 AM
So whats with all the westerners showing up in Nova Scotia this year? I thought everyone was leaving for the oilsands and the riches of Alberta. Well What I'm getting is that People that headed West in the 80's and 90's are getting ready to retire or just getting tired of the congestion.  Is it just me or are there other Canadian agents with first hand experience of this trend? Maybe it's the lure of the lobster over beef? Anyone?

halifax: It's time to hit the road! - 08/04/07 01:46 PM
I ran my last marathon in 2001. I'm 41 now and probably 25 lbs heavier as well. I've taken stabs at running, but never managed to keep it up for one reason or an other.  I ran a half marathon in Prince Edward Island last October 15th  with a guy in my office. We both ran a month or two sporadically for it, and played a round of golf in the rain the day before. Did OK , but know I had much more in me.
Well we are both now officially training for the Dublin Marathon -Oct 31st! It's pretty exciting. … (8 comments)

halifax: Canadian Referrals. - 06/29/07 09:52 AM
Canadian referrals are going to be be tougher to cultivate on AR than those south of our border. Not that we don't have the population up here but the seeming lack of agents who subscribe to AR. I think that perhaps I should make a concerted effort and send out invitations across the country to selected firms. It really is something that could be a big plus to anyone trying to promote themselves in this vast country we have.
For any Canadians reading this -Please add a comment. Maybe we can figure out a way to get some more fellow Canucks as … (12 comments)

halifax: Is your home getting too small? - 06/29/07 01:52 AM

This is being tested today. Got it running on the TV channel. It's not Cosmo, but he will have to do. - I couldn't get him to pose properly. So they took a stock dog shot.
The wording they read is pretty non-pushy. I'm thinking it will appeal to animal lovers and also it is totally different from the rest of the basic Home for sale ads that run continuously all day.
I'll post a blog later on the feedback. Thanks

halifax: Referrals - The backbone of my business. - 06/23/07 07:11 AM
I finally got around to making a database of my past clients and friends. The results have been nothing short of mind boggling! I have been sending out a monthly newsletter that I produce and then am following up with a call. 2 referrals out of the blue so far! Both Oceanfront clients that should spend in reason almost a Million CDN between the two. Man - How stunned have I been over the years!
Anyway - I would be willing to share some of my content with anyone else out there that has a similar system. What else do you … (3 comments)

halifax: Real Estate Rant - 06/20/07 12:35 PM

An excerpt  from my current newsletter - I rant on about whats on my mind. I'm sure no-one else out there has over zealous sellers! Ha   ......Oh and Nova Scotia summers are better that. -Just in-case you were thinking of heading East.
Real Estate Rant

Well it’s mid June already! Where has the spring gone? Pretty soon it will be summer and then, as quick as it came, next thing you know it’ll be the 3rd week of August with the north wind blowing again! Somebody should come up with a scheme to tow the whole peninsula of … (0 comments)

halifax: Home too small? - 06/19/07 08:35 AM
Once again Cosmo to the rescue. Who says pets don't make good advertisements! This clip was taken a year ago when Cosmo was small - Just before he graduated to a larger crate. This ad will run next week on the cable channel locally in Halifax.
I  think it's "Out of the box enough" that people watching that channel will welcome something different for a change.
PS - Anybody who wants to run it in their area - Please feel free.

halifax: My Dog - My Assistant - 06/18/07 03:23 AM
As I blogged before - my dog Cozmo is my new assistant. I thought I would add him to the dog lovers section. He just got clipped pretty good. He will grow out soon.  The trouble is he will swim in any brook, mud bog etc. He had one too many knots that just couldn't be combed out and hey...It's summer anyway.
Cosmo will be in charge of promotion, and HR. He is pretty adaptable and has a way with women.  I'll bring him on a listing appointment if I know the people have a dog already. Anyway- His business cards are … (9 comments)

halifax: Halifax Port Blog - 06/15/07 03:21 AM
Halifax has one of the largest natural ice free harbours in the world. It boasts an outer harbour two kilometres in width and eight kilometres in length with a narrow channel leading to a huge inner harbour - Bedford Basin. With a depth of 18 metres (60 feet) at low tide, Halifax also has one of the world's deepest harbours.
