As seems to be the case in just about every situation, in the midst of the trials and tribulations we are experiencing in the housing market and economy in general there are gleams of light. The City of Ashland Oregon supports green building in so many ways. From the City supported Solar Panel program  to the Green & Solar Home Tour, the City of Ashland Oregon is all about building sustainable, energy efficient buildings.
On Saturday October 11, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City of Ashland will hold a tour of four of Ashland's Green and Solar Homes. You may register for the tour through the city Parks & Recreations Department. The tour is only $10, and will depart from the Civic Center.

Rogue Valley Community Development Corporation announced this week that they will have an informational meeting on the 15 affordable housing units they plan to build through their Mutual Self Help Housing Program in Verde Village in Ashland. Go to RVCDC's website for information on qualifying for this program  , and if you think you may meet the income criteria and are able to commit to contributing 16-32 hours per week to meet the sweat equity requirements, plan to attend the meeting Thursday June 19th at 6p.m. at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Ashland, Oregon. There was  an article last week in our local paper, the Mail Tribune, that talked about Earth Advantage and Countrywide Home Loans joining together to offer a reduced interest rate to their homeowners who wish to build their homes to Energy Star®, Earth Advantage® or L.E.E.D. standards, with their project being certified by an independent third party, Earth Advantage®. I've contacted my Countrywide Rep to verify the specifics of this agreement, and to see if they will be making this program available to us on their B2B side, but have not yet heard back from them.
