Being a first-time home buyer these days can be challenging. Since it's a seller's market there are not many homes available and competition is stiff for the ones that are. Fortunately there are city, county, state and federal programs out there to help first-time buyers with down payments and closing costs. There are loans and grants available - not just for low income buyers and they are not always exclusive to first-time buyers. Property values are rebounding in the Tampa Bay area according to a recent article in the Tampa Bay Times. Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties are expected to have their fourth consecutive year of rising taxable property values. These steady increases in tax values is a good indicator that the real estate market has returned to normal after dropping so drastically as a result of the Great Recession.
