hawaii realtors: W & M Burgers vs. St. Louis Drive In - 07/18/11 01:53 PM
If you are ever in Kaimuki of near the University of Hawaii at Manoa and are hungry, there are two landmark restaurants on Waialae Ave.  They are W & M Burgers and St. Louis Drive In.

W&M Burgers makes the best Burgers in Honolulu and their signature burger is the Royal.  It's best to take you Burger, Fries and Frosty Beverage up the park at the top of St. Louis Heights and enjoy some fresh mountain air with your lunch!
St. Louis Drive In is pretty much right across the street from W&M.  They have a full menu but the … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: Internet Real Estate Search - 06/29/08 11:59 PM
Hi All- The numbers of home shoppers that are using the Internet before they call a Realtor is mind blowing!  I was shocked when my wife found our first home on line and set an appointment to meet the Listing Agent at the house and that we bought it!  Before that, the Internet seemed so far away.  This was many years ago and now it's 2008...just in case you were not sure.  Hawaii Real Estate buyers seem to be even more "Akamai" or Internet Savvy than most.  Our shoppers are looking for Real Estate on small islands in the middle of … (4 comments)

hawaii realtors: BEWARE!!!! - 05/08/08 07:36 AM
Hi All-
Many of you know that I work to write very positive messages and by doing so, help our industry to move froward in professionalism and ability.  I just had, what I can only think is a scam targeting experienced Realtors, tried on me.  Gayle got an email talking about referrals from a lender in our area.  I phoned back, the person who sent the email was "not available" but his assistant could help me.  I told her about the email and said, "Oh sure, I can help you."  She then went into a script about how their "Program" works.  … (31 comments)

hawaii realtors: Oceanfront Hawaii Real Estate - 03/24/08 10:59 AM
On the windward side of Oahu, just over the Pali Highway, you will find Kailua.  Kailua is known for it's wonderful white sand beach and laid back lifestyle.  If you drive to the beach in Kailua and turn right or south, you will drive into Lanikai.  Lanikai sits right between Kailua and Waimanalo but is only accessible from the Kailua side.
The homes in Lanikai are some of the most expensive on the island.  The main street through Lanikai, Mokulua Drive, is a loop that brings you right back to where you started near Kailua Beach.  Every home down the backside of … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: Honolulu Realtors - 03/24/08 10:43 AM
There is an art to being a great Realtor.  This art can be learned and some are born with the ability to be a GREAT Realtor.  On a larger scale, what we are talking about the the art of Management.  We have all worked for terrible managers, in from what ever industry you have come, and we have all worked for wonderful managers.
It is not a matter of this manager always giving us what we wanted, because chances are that that kind of manager did not have the company's best interest at heart and would not have lasted very long in their … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: Hawaii's Best Realtors - 03/17/08 09:42 AM
You know, it's a funny thing.  I have always said that if a company or small business has to say the words, "We're the Best..." then they probably are not.
Being the best comes from extending professional service to your clients.  It comes from going above and beyond for every single one of them.  It comes from maintaining familiar and friendly relationships with everyone in the local Real Estate Community.  It comes from returning messages and emails quickly.  It comes from NEVER making someone feel like they are bothering or interrupting you.  It comes from closing deals for your clients so … (2 comments)

hawaii realtors: What is your Corporate Culture? - 03/17/08 08:58 AM
cor*po*rate cul*ture (Noun) 1. A company's values and customs, the values, customs, and traditions of a particular company, usually a large corporation.  2. Atmosphere in large companies.  the professional atmosphere that prevails in large corporations generally, reflected in people's dress, conduct, and ways of communicating.
I was formally trained in the concepts of Corporate Culture when I was working for a Japanese Corporation in Hawaii.  To Japan and Japanese Business, culture is EVERYTHING.  In business, it means going up the Chairman and President's offices to say good morning and back to the same offices when you are done for the day to … (2 comments)

hawaii realtors: Welcome to Honolulu! - 03/13/08 09:46 AM
Honolulu may be a small town to some, but to about 1.1 million of us, it is home.  Life in the wonderful city is, well, wonderful!  The people are very nice, the weather is legendary and there are hundreds of parks.  We love sports and anything out of doors here.  Golfing, surfing, biking, running, hiking, baseball, soccer, you name it we do it!
There is also a wonderful and full cultural life here as well.  Concerts, theatre, museums and restaurants and cafes.  All one needs to do is to dive in!  Here is a great link to one of our local papers for our Events … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: Real Estate and the Hawaii Supreme Court - 03/12/08 06:06 PM
The Honolulu Board of Realtors has requested that all members write a letter tp the Hawaii Supreme Court in opposition of this law that it is considering passing.  Do any ARs have anything like this in your areas?
The Hawaii Supreme Court is considering a rule change proposal that would define the unauthorized practice of law in Hawaii . If adopted, the rule would prevent a real estate licensee from explaining certain aspects of a home purchase to consumers, and assisting a client in completing or responding to a Purchase Contract. To put it simply, it would effectively prevent real estate licensees from serving their … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: Be the Professional - 03/12/08 07:23 AM
There are transactions that come along, ever now and again, that make you want to pull your hair out!  The ones where the other agent has no clue and you end up doing all of the work because that is what it's going to take to get it done for your client.  There are the transactions where the other agent has no clue AND is rude as hell!  Then there are the transactions where the other agent is a non-communicator, in what could be a simple transaction now feels like you're walking around in a fog!
Time and time again, we have … (2 comments)

hawaii realtors: Has anyone seen my dog? - 03/07/08 06:05 AM
I was out driving around the island a few moths back and I saw the COOLEST thing!  On another agent's sign at her listing, she had a rider that was attached to the top of the sign post that was a picture of a Big Golden Retriever looking down at her information!  It was a great eye catcher and I thought that when I get back to the office, I would look on-line and order a few of them.
I have never been able to find them on-line and her sign is long gone.  Have any of you wonderful AR people seen … (6 comments)

hawaii realtors: Contact Us... - 03/07/08 05:38 AM
The internet has been around for what seems like forever and we are all used to it by now.  I do have a problem with one part of this very cool onlineness-Internet-communication thing.  You know when you go to a site or web page and you get almost all of the information you need for the project you are working on, all except for that one little piece.  So you go to the Contact Us page.  Once there, a great site will have the company's address, phone, email address' etc.  BUT there are those that only have the email contact and worse … (0 comments)

hawaii realtors: How comfortable are you with money? - 03/07/08 05:06 AM
It's a funny thing.  You can always tell the people who are comfortable with money by the way they speak about it.  If you are a Realtor that would like to start representing buyer & seller clients in the higher end homes and properties in your area, and you have to gasp when you say, "it is being offer at $2.500,000" or you have to take a pause when a client tells you that their budget is $1,800,000 for their new home, you need TO GET OVER IT QUICKLY!
You may never be able to buy one of these properties yourself, but … (5 comments)

hawaii realtors: Mini Vacations...all in your head? - 03/07/08 04:50 AM
In our business, we work, at times, very odd hours.  When we are in the middle of a big deal we can also work 10-12-15 hours a day.  We have all ran through the drive through  for lunch and brown bagged it in the office from time to time, but every now and then, we...you (!!!) need a break!  I am actually going to suggest that this "Break" become your norm!
My favorite place to unplug and recharge is on the wall at Diamond Head in Honolulu.  Sure, it helps to be a Hawaii Realtor (I don't have to fly to get … (2 comments)
