westhampton: Silver Sands in Westhampton Beach - 04/24/10 11:35 PM
WESTHAMPTON BEACH has long been know for its gorgeous silver sandy beaches. One of the few commercial hotels on the beach is the Bath And Tennis Hotel. Built in the early 50's, it's interesting to note that the description of the silver sands still holds true today.
The Bath and Tennis Club was built in 1953 and opened for business on Decoration Day May 30, 1954. The sea defines Westhampton New York. The wide stretch of white sand that runs along its southern border is the place where its people have been coming for hundreds of years to play, work, socialize, and be alone. The power and beauty of the ocean waves are life-sustaining forces, as is the sense of peaceful solitude that comes with being in such a primeval place, with the seagulls, the sea breezes, and September's monarch butterflies.

One of my favorite places to visit in the WESTHAMPTON area is the Tuthill House Museum, which is the main building of the WESTHAMPTON BEACH HISTORICAL SOCIETY located at 101 Mill Road in WESTHAMPTON BEACH.
 
The mission of the Society is to collect and preserve materials pertaining to the Greater Westhampton area, which includes Eastport, Speonk, Remsenburg, Westhampton, Westhampton Dunes, Westhampton Beach, and Quiogue and to interpret the history of the area through exhibitions, educational programs, and publications.

Quiogue is a little known piece of “the Hamptons,” often confused with Quogue. A very special place, Quiogue is a one-square-mile peninsula situated between the villages of Westhampton Beach and Quogue. There is no town center and the zip code is 11978, which means all the mail is processed thru Westhampton Beach.
