active rain: Legacy of a Hundred Silly Blogs - 07/31/07 05:16 PM
31 July 2007 - Madison, Wisconsin
Somewhere along the way - according to the ActiveRain accounting method - I managed to post a hundred blogs.
Now I hadn't planned on posting 100 of these things since I started in late March - I figured 100 Blogs would be a nice two-year supply at a brisk pace of one-per-week.  But here it is, so I brought my own fireworks...
Now the pics on the right and below aren't just ANY display of power and force - these are photos of the Messier 100 Galaxy.  Now 100 of anything would seem like a bit of a milestone, and … (14 comments)

active rain: "TWITTIER" - Better Than Twitter by One Letter (the one that's not in "TEAM") - 05/04/07 05:30 PM
29 December 2008 (I'm a forward thinker...)
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - or so it's said - unless it's imitation vanilla extract or imitation chocolate.  Let's take this a step further.  Twitter.
OK ARers, or Rainers, or Bloggers or Pointless Remarkers - Sometimes we don't even feel creative at all.  Mid afternoon, after either a big lunch or absolutely NO lunch, the brain lags and the eyes stare blankly at the computer screen, if open at all.
Sometimes we just need to express ourselves, but to no one in particular...this is the right time to imitate Twitter right here and go to … (394 comments)

active rain: Friends, Rainers, and Countrymen - Lend KIVA Your Ears - and 25 Bucks! - 04/20/07 04:57 PM
20 April 2007 - Madison, Wisconsin
As some of you know, Bill and I are proponents of KIVA, the rapidly growing organization that helps provide microfinance - as microloans - for third world and developing nation business-persons and entrepreneurs.  The loans vary from around $300 to $1400 and every business is pre-screened by partner lenders in the host countries or region.  We helped co-host a KIVA Talkathon last month (see blog) and joined just before that weekend, meaning we became "lenders" (which seems like a good idea and natural evolution for us).
In our attempt to "test the waters" and do a little something we backed two individuals … (14 comments)

active rain: MY alamode HOME PAGE BLUES - can you make major changes? - 04/11/07 02:04 PM
Hi ALAMODE Rainers
I really don't like the restrictions on my alamode home page.  Too much information.  I need to change it to a simpler page where the options are presented as hyper-linked (to sub-pages) banners that can get the visitors to where they want to go - FAST.
I envision a quick synopsis, then a link to 'refinances" and one to "purchase" and a couple more - such a listings or foreclosures or damaged credit or such.
Has anyone found a way to do that effectively?  Please send your link and/or post here.
Thanks.

active rain: We Can Disagree - 04/05/07 02:27 PM
5 April 2007
I just had a very disappointing blogging experience here on ActiveRain.  It was my first negative experience of any kind on AR and, frankly, it disturbed me.
Without revealing any details, I will only say that a blog comment was misunderstood and then taken personally by the host, who responded with a personal attack.  Even after an apology was extended, the host again responded with a rude and spurious remark, meant both to offend and demean.  The commenting party deleted all comments from the host's blog to end the juvenile verbal tug-of-war.  Sadly, that action did NOT end the confrontation, but my narrative about it will end here.  … (51 comments)
