This week I finally took the long awaited trip on the Hawaii Superferry. I give the vessel and its crew 5 stars and 2 thumbs up! Earlier in the year the Hawaii Superferry offered a $5 introductory rate. They immediately got tied up with a legal challenge and stopped sailing. I bought a couple of those tickets for a round trip voyage and for my vehicle. This last Tuesday I finally used them. Let me start be saying I was anticipating this trip. ferry: The Hawaii SuperFerry Has Arrived in Honolulu!

The day we have been waiting for is here. Our new ship the Alakai arrived this afternoon in Honolulu Harbor with an entourage of helicopters, coast guard vessels, and a fireboat with water cannons blazing. I and a few 100 of the local faithful waited at Sand Island State Park next to the entrance of Honolulu Harbor to see the arrival of our long awaited inter-island ferry. ferry: Hawaii SuperFerry to Begin Operations Later This Summer

The company put out a press release this week announcing that they are continuing to undergo a rigorous U.S. Coastguard certification and inspection process of our new ship named the Alakai (Pictured above undergoing sea trials). To complete that process before transporting the first ship to Hawaii they have delayed the start of service until the end of summer. Once the trials are complete the Alakai will leave Mobile Alabama and sail to the warm waters of Hawaii to her home port. The Hawaii SuperFerry will begin taking reservations by early summer. ferry: Honolulu Gets a New Ferry

Mayor Hannemann announced yesterday that a ferry running from the 2nd City of Kapolei to Honolulu will be ready to run in April to provide some traffic relief. The Ferry system will include at least two boats that seat 150 people each. It will run from Kalaeloa to Pier 9 in downtown Honolulu. Now I am not a rocket scientist, but how will two boats with 150 seats bring traffic relief. Politicians love their toys.
