It has been announced that the 2014 VA loan limit for 100% financing for Honolulu County (Oahu) has been increased to $721,050. This raises it from the earlier announced $625,500 which was a decrease from 2013. A online news article this morning on Hawaii Reporter with a statement from Senator Schatz, confirmed the rumours we started hearing over the weekend. The earlier decision appeared to be a huge mistake by all standards. The cost of housing on Oahu has been increasing. The military has recognized that by giving our troops stationed on Oahu large increases in the 2013 and 2014 BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing). … (2 comments)

Beginning January 1st, 2013 the VA Mortgage limits for 100% financing for Hawaii will be going down slightly on Oahu (from $756,00 in 2012), the neighbor islands will remain the same. For Oahu County is will be: $750,000 For all other Hawaii Counties it will be: $625,500. VA Jumbo loans will be handled the same way as in the past. Most of the Hawaii lenders require 25% down payment for anything over the limit. For example a purchase of $1,000,000 on Oahu would require $67,500 down, compared to a conventional loan that would require $200,000 down or mortgage insurance. If you … (8 comments)

Beginning January 1st, 2012 the VA Mortgage limits for 100% financing for Hawaii will be going down a little. For Oahu County is will be: $695,750 For all other Hawaii Counties it will be: $625,500 VA Jumbo loans will be handled the same way. Most of the Hawaii lenders require 25% down payment for anything over the limit. For example a purchase of $795,750 on Oahu would require $25,000 down.
