employees: FIGHTING FIRES MR. BUSINESS PERSON? - 09/18/15 07:14 AM
This is a most revealing statement to make about yourself when someone asks how you are doing and you say; Oh, I am fighting fires. Really? I thought firemen do that but now you are revealing your management style. You are reactive! You have buttons that can be pushed. You rise only to fight on? What business are you in I wonder?
REACTION MANAGEMENT
Being reactive is not the way. That leaves you vulnerable to random cause and effect forces which dominate and have their way until stopped. How to stop? We go to the cause and from there, make the necessary changes. Then, no longer … (7 comments)

employees: SPEAKING UP WHEN YOU HAVE THE WORDS BUT NOT THE MUSIC - 05/06/13 08:05 AM
I see people all day along wherever I go....there is nothing unusual about that. BUT, what do you do when you see something that you want to point out to someone BUT you do not want to offend them and you think it will help them but you don't have the right combination of words......get the picture...?
With Spouses:
After the honeymoon, you start noticing things about the other person. The stuff you like take cares of itself. NOW, the stuff you do not like, if not handled properly, can cause an argument. Most of us are not set-up to have … (7 comments)

employees: IF YOU SMELLED AND HAD AN ATTITUDE WOULD YOU WANT TO KNOW? - 05/02/13 12:38 AM
As we go through life, it is very important to remain open and receptive. That is one of the ways we grow and learn. Using feedback and input allows one to make course and behavioral adjustments that refine our journey that directly affect our results. In this story, the harm done..... is caused by the one doing it.
I managed a large restaurant with about 80 people. One day, I got a call from one of the owners asking me to do them a favor. Please understand that the owners left you to make final decisions for your unit and never … (4 comments)

employees: MANAGEMENT SWORD CUTS BOTH WAYS - 11/16/12 03:29 AM
When we use the word manager nowadays, one thinks of the perks and the extra money that goes with the title. But the word itself: manager comes from the word MANAGE which is intended to mean the supervision and caring of other people, places, and things. It has sort of a buck stops here theme to it
MANAGEMENT IS NECESSARY
This is a tremendous responsibility to both your employer, your fellow workers and the consumer public. What a manager does or does not do and how they do it will determine just how well things will or will not end up.

employees: LETS MAKE A STEAL IS REPLACING LETS MAKE A DEAL - 04/12/12 07:52 AM
BUSINESS THEFT...I went into a store the other day and had noticed on the ceiling all these black plastic bubbles. The eye in the sky watching over everything. Then, there are metal devices that are attached to the more expensive items that trigger an alarm if not detached or deactivated. Losses from theft are real
I COUNTED 25-30 EYE IN THE SKY

THIS IS NO JOKE
These losses can be real business killers. Many companies have gone under from lax security from both the public and the employee or insider. Furthermore, if anyone gains access to any online records, they … (8 comments)

employees: PAYING PEOPLE BY THE HOUR OR THE JOB - 02/02/12 06:44 AM
This subject has come up lately and even more so during this recession. I have spoken with both sides of the fence. The guy doing the work who comes up with an hourly charge is charging what he believes he is worth. The guy hiring doesn't want to be nickel-ed and dime-ed to the minute and therefore just wants a price to complete the whole work
POINT OF VIEW
Hourly works very well for the guy who is doing his profession. I am dealing with tradesmen in the business who charge $25-$50 dollars an hour to perform their services. They charge … (4 comments)

employees: POWER COMES WITH RESPONSIBLITY - 06/09/11 04:19 AM
This subject is something we all know about. Until you have had your own experience though, you haven't lived the subject. You see human beings don't handle power very well. It dominates and shocks many that come into it and instead of learning about it before using it, people use it and like to learn as they go. Unfortunately, a lot of people get hurt in the process
HUMANS AND POWER
When a human being comes into power, it should be a humbling experience. In most situations, it means what you do and say will affect others and in some cases … (6 comments)

employees: TAKE THE BOSSES CALL...OR TAKE THE INSTRUCTED CALL...? - 05/30/11 02:30 AM
I faced the title to my post many years ago when I was running three Real Estate companies for a multi-millionaire entrepreneur. Landlines ruled the day, there was no call waiting, and computers were not to be found at the work place. We were expecting an extremely urgent call from a governmental agency.
THE GOVERNMENT CALLS YOU ONCE AND THEY COMPLIED
If they cannot get through, if your lines are busy, if you don't come to the phone fast enough, you lose and they hang up. Trying to call someone back in those days took days...good luck!. Meanwhile, your business plans … (7 comments)

employees: REMEMBER THE TOWN CRIER? They yell the time and then reported..... - 03/28/11 06:15 AM
Its in the old movies. There was a profession in the 1700's England where you were hired to walk the neighborhood and cry out what the time was and to state all is well. Of course, all had to be well for you to cry all is well. Usually it was. It was not uncommon to announce things at that time also
THE PROCEDURE
First they would shot the time and then add.....So and so had a baby and all is well. The street around the corner was repaired and all is well. The city is safe and all is well. … (2 comments)
