One of our favorite hikes in the Sacramento area is an up and back hike that starts at the confluence of the Middle Fork and North Fork of the American River and ends at Lake Clementine. It is mostly a gently sloping hike up to the lake with an easier return trip that is mostly down hill. It is about just about a four mile hike round trip and you get to enjoy the North Fork of the American River the whole way.

As I pass 400k in points and head towards 500k, I am amazed at my friends on ActiveRain that have made it to the top. It has taken me over 10 years to get where I am. It is remarkable that Roy Kelley, Ron and Alexandra Seigel, Barbara Todaro, Bob Crane, Joan Cox and Kathy Streib all are close to 5 million or higher. I will never make it at the rate I am going. It turned out to be a very good year for homeowners and home sellers in Elk Grove this last year. Median prices went up 30%, year over year. It has been another challenging year, but it is time to celebrate the coming of the new year. I thought I would share our favorite holiday recipe with you. This one has a fun story. Changes! Anyone that knows me, knows that I do not like change. My hair style, what's left of it anyway, has not changed in 30 years. The same person still cuts my hair. Her job is so much easier these days, that I should get a discount. I go to the same dentist office. His job has become more difficult and he does charge more! Elk Grove Market, October 2021 (Headlines should read Oct. 2020 to Oct. 2021) It was such a beautiful day yesterday that I had to stop and create a short video showing the lake at Laguna West. We recently visited Apple Hill to celebrate our anniversary and purchased a bunch of really great tasting apples. We decided to try making apple butter for the first time. I used the crock pot recipe found in this article, Apple Butter (3 Ways!), as a rough guide. It is pretty easy. There is an option to peel or not peel all of the apples. We chose not to peel them. Thirty one years of marriage and all my wife wanted was a trip to Apple Hill and a new toilet. I did not know that porcelain was the preferred gift for thirty one years of marriage, but who am I to argue. Apple Hill is about an hour's drive up Highway 50 from Elk Grove. It is a perfect place to visit for the day. It is open year around, but really comes alive during apple season with all kinds of fun things to do. Russell, our grandson, is 3! How did that happen so quickly? However it happened, we celebrated on Sunday. It was a fun theme, after the movie Coco. I understand it is a good movie and it is Russell approved so it must be! The Mexican food was catered and very delicious, but the real star of the day was Russell's Cake. It was beautiful, delicious and homemade. There was even a Piñata! Russell took a few wacks at it, but will have to work out for next years attempt.
