Budgeting is essential, because you are in business to make a profit. Many agents do not even know how much they have made year to date, much less how much they have spent! Whenever I'm interviewing a super star agent for the HouseValues MasterMind Call series they always know their key numbers. You need to know how much you have coming in-and plan for it-and how much you will be spending. You should be able to evaluate what sort of return on the dollar (ROI) you are getting for your advertising/marketing spending. Establishing a household budget may be a good starting place. When you create a business plan, one of the most important things you will be doing is planning ways to generate leads. Agents generally plan marketing and advertising campaigns. Some of their efforts are focused on building their image and name recognition. The most important aspect of marketing should be lead generation. Today my wife, Debra Gravelle, sits for her real estate exam. She has been studying for about a month using the Rockwell online course which she has found to be very thorough and easy to follow. I am going to attempt to chronicle the day in the life of an agent wanna-be. First you should have a little background. Debra worked for HouseValues for over 6 years. In the company's early days she was their #1 Account Executive, three years running. Then they promoted her to a Team Lead position where she led on of the top producing teams. "An agent was receiving quite a few referrals from one of her past clients. As a thank you she went in with her lender and loan officer to offer to catered party for the client, his friends, and co-workers. He agreed, gave her a list of invitees, and they threw him a party.
