Happy Holidays Everyone! For the next couple of weeks, I will be trying to post a photo every day from that depicts the sites of the season. They won’t necessarily be all about Christmas or any of the other holidays. They will just be symbolic of this special time of year.
This first photo was taken of holiday lights. This house in White Plains NY did a nice understated job. It is from the Gedney Farms neighborhood in the south end of White Plains. An area noted for its large lots and pre-war homes. But I really wanted to emphasize … (12 comments)

One of the greatest things about the spring and fall seasons is that the blossoms and foliage create a vivid color display. On a bright sunny day, they sight is amazing…but sometimes storm clouds create a contrast that makes the seasonal colors appear more vivid. This is particularly true when the sun is peeking through heavy cloud cover – just as it was today. This photo was taken in White Plains near the Gedney Farms neighborhood. Over the past few months I have written several times about the now infamous Gedney Farms vs. FASNY issue. For those not in the know – the private French American School (FASNY) is seeking a special permit to build a 1200 student K-12 campus in the Gedney neighborhood. I have been on record as being against the project. I have written a couple of posts to this effect outlining my concerns for the neighborhood and the implications for the future building prospects on other large tracts of land that have yet to be developed. These days when New Yorkers think of White Plains NY, they think of high-rise luxury living at the Ritz Carlton or Trump Tower. However, White Plains has a softer more residential side concentrated at the southern end of the city. The dichotomy between the residential and urban ends of the city is actually quite politically charged. Locals often describe these conflicts as “north end” vs. “south end.” Gedney Farms is one of the premier high-end single-family neighborhoods at the southern tip of the city. Sometimes its just fun to post something that has nothing to do with real estate. Since dogs are one of my passions, a friend sent me this story in an email: An old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fedbelly that he had a home. When clients are looking for high-end single family homes with plenty of green space and old-world charm – Gedney Farms is the first neighborhood that comes to mind in White Plains. Gedney Farms was named after John Gedney who bought the land in 1740. Gedney Farms was a working farm right that remained within the Gedney family right through the Civil War. It has long ceased to be farmland and is now a well established neighborhood.
